CORONARY AND STRUCTURAL HEART provides interventional devices to treat coronary arteries that are blocked by atherosclerotic plaque and devices and therapies to treat structural defects of the heart.

In this exciting role as a Princpal EHS Specialist, you will be responsible for providing leadership and implementation of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) policies, programs and systems to comply with Federal, State and local EHS regulations as well as Company policies, strategies, initiatives and goals.
The Santa Rosa site is the research and new product development center of excellence supporting the Coronary, Aortic and Peripheral, and Structural Heart businesses, and also hosts a limited number of high-volume manufacturing operations. In addition, the Santa Rosa EHS team supports smaller sites in the Bay Area in a variety of different businesses as well as the CV sales US sales force. The Santa Rosa site has long been considered a leader in Medtronic for its strong EHS and Sustainability performance.
A Day in the Life
The Principal EHS Specialist will act as a business partner to a variety of R&D groups as well as manufacturing. The Principal EHS Specialist will have ownership over a defined number of EHS programs that are part of a comprehensive EHS Management system. Program ownership will involve periodic program reviews and audits, expertise in regulatory foundations for the various programs, providing training to employees, overseeing administrative processes and continuous improvement efforts, and ensuring the effectiveness of program elements. Major programs of emphasis include Workers Compensation, Ergonomics, Environmental based programs and permitting, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation programs, Hazardous Waste, Air, Wastewater, Lasers and Radiation, and other various areas of expertise.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Develops, administers, and implements environmental, health, and Safety programs in accordance with governmental requirements.
- Depending on position location, may monitor pollution prevention activities, compliance, and auditing efforts.
- Contributes to studies and prepares environmental impact reports for new construction projects, plant processes and permit changes.
- Reviews and analyzes environmental documentation issued by regulatory agencies; collaborate with regulatory agencies to determine corrective action plans.
- Evaluates proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, public and environmental impact.
- Interacts with regulatory bodies to resolve compliance issues; establishes permit requirements and assists in regulatory audits.
- Represents Company in government and industry rule-making activities.
- Ensures appropriate corrective action is taken where environmental, health, and Safety hazards exist.
- Identifies and takes corrective action against activities that pose potential threats to workers' health or safety, which may include recommending organizational measures to protect workers' safety through revised methods, processes, or materials; inspecting workplace environments, equipment, and/or practices to ensure compliance with standards and regulations; and investigating and/or identifying causes regarding filed incidents.
- May provide/promote employee awareness/training on matters of environmental, health, and Safety.
- Strong understanding of California Workers Compensation
- Experience in ergonomic evaluations for on- and off-site employees
- Industrial Hygiene knowledge
- Ability to travel up to 25% to alternate site in Santa Clara and Menlo Park, CA
Must Have: Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 7 years of experience working with OSHA, EPA or local environmental Health and Safety regulation
- Or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years' experience working with OSHA, EPA or local environmental Health and Safety regulation
Nice to Have
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
- Stormwater regulation knowledge
- TSCA Knowledge
- Experience in integrating EHS programs into a business,
- Experience in industrial hygiene monitoring for airborne contaminants, noise, ionizing radiation, etc.
- The ability to interact and build relationships with people at all levels and communicate sensitive and complicated issues seamlessly to a diverse worker population.
- Experience managing environmental programs such as hazardous waste and air permits.
- Strong understanding of California Workers Compensation
- Experience in ergonomic evaluations for on- and off-site employees
- Experience developing and implementing Behavior-Based Safety programs in a large organization.
- Lean / Six-Sigma green belt certification
- Medical Device or other FDA regulated industry experience.

The provided base salary range is used nationally (except in certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
Salary Min: $108,000 Salary Max: $162,000
