Tehachapi Cement, LLC is seeking a qualified Health and Safety Specialist.
Job Overview:
To assist the Plant Manager and Health & Safety Supervisor in fostering a culture of safety, well-being, and resilience within the workplace by proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks to ensure the Health and Safety of all employees, visitors, and stakeholders. To assist in creating an environment where everyone feels supported, informed, and equipped to make sound decisions that promote a safe and healthy work environment through the use of continuous education, training, and communication, and empower individuals at all levels to prioritize safety in their daily activities.
Requirements:
Training:
Perform site specific training for Drake Cement employees, vendors, and contractors.
Assist in conducting part 46 training to Drake employees and contractor employees as needed to fulfil regulatory training requirements.
Drake Cement Health & Safety Coordination:
Perform Inspection, through visual observations on-field of all activities at Drake Cement locations, to determine compliance of suitable safety procedures.
Plants Audits:
Perform site EHS audits and inspections including plant leadership audits to identify and mitigate Environmental, Health, and Safety Hazards on as needed basis.
Safety Cultural Change:
Stimulate and cultivate “a zero-incident mentality” with all individuals onsite through safety and collaborative meetings to promote alignment with Corporate EHS goals.
Incident Management:
Assess safety risks, assist in the determination of root causes and the development of corrective actions to mitigate, or eliminate risk conditions, behaviors, and other factors resulting from safety incidents and near misses.
Safety Meeting Participation:
Participate actively in department safety meetings to assure alignment with Corporate safety goals and provide all stakeholders with the appropriate safety metrics.
Safety Documentation:
Maintain safety training certifications and track safety performance through site data collection systems and MSHA/OSHA information retrieval systems to promote continuous improvement programs and employee accountability.
Site Leadership Collaboration:
Partner with Operations Leadership at multiple levels to ensure site operations are properly aligned and supported to promote a safe work environment at all locations in the plant and quarry.
Corporate EHS Collaboration:
Collaborate with Corporate EHS management on regular basis to ensure consistent alignment of initiative and goals including assisting with safety supervision of Drake Cement activities.
Continuous Improvement:
Work with management teams and field workers to develop and implement solutions on safety and environmental related findings brought forth during site inspections and audits to promote daily safe work area, and consistent compliance of MSHA/OSHA regulations.
Cement Plant Improvement Planning:
Participate in site construction project communications meetings and pre-construction startup assessments to ensure safety equipment and regulatory requirements are fully incorporated into engineering plans and are adequately vetted. This will assure construction projects runs smoothly and meet all regulatory safety requirements.
Site Leadership Inspection participation:
Participate in Site Safety leadership inspection program to contribute to overall safety performance.
Perform duties as requested by the Health & Safety Supervisor/Manager to maintain the health & safety standards required by all applicable regulations and policies at Drake Cement.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED and 5 or more years of equivalent or relevant experience, or
- Associate's degree, vocational or technical area is preferred 3 or more Years of equivalent or relevant experience, or
- BS Degree in Occupational Environmental, Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Organizational Leadership, or related field required with 1 or more years of experience.
Preferred:
- Equipment operation experience
- Training or teaching experience
