Job description

SUMMARY
A Team Lead - PB Standards.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
50% of time spent:
  • Operate machines according to the standard process
  • Monitor and perform preventative maintenance and repairs on heat treat and coating equipment
  • Troubleshoot, identify and diagnose operating problems; diagnose, plan and implement solutions on heat treat and coating equipment
  • Use SAP to confirm, monitor and/or track orders
  • Daily coaching, training, and support of team members
  • Act as the primary trainer for the area, maintain department skills matrix to drive cross training program
  • Audit jobs to confirm that the standard work is being followed and is current - make adjustments using team input
  • Sustainment of systems (metrics, standard work, quality, 5S, PDCA, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

50% of time spent:
  • Research & adopt new material and coating technology to realize competitive advantage
  • Research current and future tool steel(s), heat treat processes and coating technologies
  • Focus on the development, improvement, changing and optimizing material and coating practices & procedures to ensure sound metallurgical integrity
  • Apply creative and professional technical skills to the solving of materials and coatings problems
  • Develop confidential data, report plans, programs, costs, new products, and process information as needed
  • Conduct research projects involving plan and budget for work involving pioneering research into areas where large blocks of data are currently unknown
  • Provide support for material selection of new products and when upgrading metallurgy and coatings of existing products
  • Perform own chemical, mechanical, physical, and processing tests and analyses according to a schedule and plans discussed with supervisor
  • Consult and advise operations personnel, engineers, and maintenance in problem solving related to the materials/metallurgy & coatings field
  • Promote third-party partnerships in this specialty area to leverage resource with established level of competency
  • Collaborate with suppliers, as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have mechanical abilities and technical experience
  • A 2-Year Metallurgical, Chemistry, or Materials Processing degree; or 5+ years of equivalent working experience in the tool steel industry
  • Requires strong organizational skills along with a strong understanding of the manufacturing and coatings process for raw materials
  • Must have a working knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in this area
  • Must have the ability to freely move amongst all machine cells as the workload demands
  • Must have the ability to read technical data such as blueprints and routings
  • Exposure to a Lean environment and a passion for continuous improvement
  • Ability to operate hardness testers, and digital photography equipment.
  • Ability to multi task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have very strong communication skills internal and external, problem-solving and clarifying company issues
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Capable of carrying projects through to completion
  • Strong computer keyboarding skills including; 10 key and MS Office software programs (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Desire for continuing education and lifelong learning
