SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The President of the Medical Group is responsible for providing strategic direction and administrative leadership in the continued development and execution of the PSHMG, under the direction of the COO/President, PSH. Lead the continued development of a high-performing, accessible, and satisfying academic-based and community-based ambulatory care environment. The incumbent will help support the implementation of greater access to a continuum of comprehensive ambulatory and outpatient services across Central Pennsylvania. Provide clear direction and efficient day-to-day management of PSHMG's operations and performance outcomes. Develop consistent, outstanding patient and provider experience by enhancing standardized, patient-focused processes; establishing performance benchmarks; guiding annual performance improvement activities; and evaluating the performance of administrative leaders across the continuum of outpatient sites.

Responsible for facilitating PSHMG's strategic planning, financial reporting, clinical program planning and development, provision of ambulatory and outpatient clinical operations, and the enhancement of administrative support services. Manage all human capital, financial, and material resources in support of the organizational goals and objectives, and be responsible for the development of the Group's policies, procedures, productivity metrics, quality and safety program, standards, and training to enhance the viability and efficiency of PSHMG.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Build and enhance relationships to solidify Penn State Health (PSH) as a leading multi-specialty Medical Group network involving the Community Medical Group, Academic Medical Group, affiliated and independent physicians. Assess existing clinical services and develop strategic initiatives necessary to integrate and grow these services as well as potential new services to meet the growing healthcare needs of the communities served by PSH.
  • In partnership with PSHMG Leadership, lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the PSHMG's clinical programs and services with particular attention to staffing ratios, physician productivity, patient flow, and patient outcomes. Ensure effective implementation of these plans.
  • Works with peers of the Health System to ensure the financial and clinical success of the Health System. In collaboration with the PSHMG Leadership, provide leadership and management for the business affairs of the PSHMG and interpret issues for physicians and staff.
  • Participate with the appropriate leaders to perform environmental scans and internal/external market assessments to plan for growth. Promote and recommend new markets and expanded services with an entrepreneurial concern for the long-term profitability and success of the enterprise. Keep current on advances in ambulatory and outpatient care and actively participate in national ambulatory forums, including the UHC Ambulatory Council and IHI's performance improvement initiatives.
  • In collaboration with the Chief Strategy Officer, develop the strategy for the PSHMG, including existing services and new or expanded services. Ensure implementation of these plans.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Quality Officer to ensure compliance with all regulatory and government agency standards such as The Joint Commission and Pennsylvania Department of Health and minimize risk for PSHMG's ambulatory practice sites. Create an environment in which staff members feel safe in informing supervisors, directors, and/or Compliance Officers of suspected or actual unethical or unlawful business practices.
  • In collaboration with the PSHMG Leadership, responsible for the delivery of service to patients, physicians, and other customers. Acquire and allocate PSHMG resources for the assigned programs. Manage human, capital, facility, and operational resources within a budget through direct and contractual arrangements in order to meet PSHMG's needs.
  • Ensure excellence in customer service, with an emphasis on systems, to promote a patient centered approach to care delivery. Develop and monitor a system for ambulatory service performance improvement initiatives. Maintain a system for performance benchmarking for all PSHMG clinics to include metrics for customer satisfaction, effectiveness or care, operational efficiency, access, and staff/physician satisfaction.
  • In collaboration with the PSHMG Leadership, develop Quality and Safety program, goals, and operational plan for the PSHMG.
  • Develop practice standards, policies, performance metrics, and reporting mechanism for PSHMG.
  • Responsible with the PSHMG Leadership to create a positive work environment that articulates clear objectives, develop competencies, evaluate performance, and recognize and reward desired outcomes. Ensure effective, efficient and timely functioning of all PSHMG Clinics and related procedural areas. Ensure leadership structure and competencies are in place to achieve operational objectives.
  • In collaboration with the PSHMG Leadership, assess the current strengths and weaknesses of PSHMG and identify areas for potential growth and advancement. Ensure the appropriate multidisciplinary assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient needs.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Health Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of leadership with supervision and management in the outpatient or physician organization environment including direct responsibility for physician relations required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Experience in an academic medical center or large teaching environment.
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
