STRATEGIC/TACTICAL (30%)
In collaboration with the board of directors, set a vision for the organization, its membership, and how it positively impacts students and the teaching profession.
Ensure that the organization has a long-range strategy that achieves its mission
Develop program, operational, and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the board.
Promote active and broad participation by the organization’s membership.
Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field of education, teacher workforce issues.
FUNDRAISING, BUDGET, AND FINANCE (30%)
Develop and maintain sound financial practices.
Work with the staff, Development Committee, and Board to develop program ideas, cultivate funder relationships, and prepare and submit grant applications and funding proposals.
Work with staff to prepare an annual budget; see that the organization operates within budget guidelines;
Set and meet annual fundraising targets.
Develop relationships with district and state education agencies, philanthropic and corporate partners to raise funding.
Ensure effective audit trails.
Provide for proper fiscal record-keeping and reporting.
Submit monthly financial statements to the Board of Directors.
COMMUNICATION (20%)
Communicate regularly with the organization’s members to build relationships and understand member priorities and concerns.
Publicize the activities, programs, and goals of the organization.
Demonstrates superlative communication skills.
Promote and maintain the organization’s “brand” in the education space.
Represent the point of view of the organization and members to the public.
STAFF SUPERVISION (10%)
Assume responsibility for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel.
Encourage staff development and education.
Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff with quality skills.
Establish and promote work-culture.
Ensure an annual review of the employee handbook in partnership with the board for accuracy and compliance.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS (10%)
Ensure that the board is kept fully informed regarding the condition of the organization.
Establish and maintain a close professional partnership with the Board and the Board Chair.
Assist the Board Chair in planning the agenda and materials for board meetings.
Facilitate the orientation of new board members.
Work with the Board to support their efforts to fundraise.
Jointly conduct official correspondence of the organization with the Board Chair.
Required Experience and Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education or related field. Masters or Doctorate preferred.
10+ years of education and/or related industry experience
5+ years experience managing budgets and fundraising
Ability to develop and manage talent, teams, and projects
Willingness and ability to travel (approximately 20-30%) to maintain relationships with organizational partners, funders, and policymakers.
