- A bachelor's degree and teacher certification;
- Three to five years of experience teaching in preschool programs;
- Experience providing professional development to classroom teachers;
- Experience in implementing developmentally appropriate preschool curricula;
- Experience with performance-based preschool assessments; and
- Beginning September 1, 2007, newly appointed master teachers shall hold certification as follows:
- Preschool through grade three standard instructional certificate; or N-8
- Preschool through grade three endorsement in addition to other standard instructional certificate, except as indicated at N.J.A.C. 6A:9-11.2 and 11.7.
- The Preschool Instructional Coach shall also demonstrate one or more of the following:
- Certification that includes an endorsement for bilingual education or English as a second language.
- Certification that includes an endorsement for teacher of students with disabilities or teacher of the handicapped.
- A graduate degree in early childhood education with an emphasis on early literacy and/or early mathematics; and/or
- A graduate degree in educational supervision and/or leadership
Responsibilities:
- Provides instructional coaching for preschool teachers and facilitates a developmentally appropriate educational environment for preschool children.
- Supports the implementation of the Creative Curriculum, program evaluation instruments, and daily lessons that are linked to early childhood development.
- Works with various staff to provide support and suggested interventions for students.
