Job Title: Surgery Center Nurse
The Surgery Center Nurse is critical in providing high-quality patient care in a surgery center setting. Working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals, the Surgery Center Nurse assists in pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients throughout their surgical experience.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities of the Surgery Center Nurse are separated below into the categories of pre-operative care, intra-operative care, post-operative care, and education/compliance.
Pre-Operative Care
- Conduct pre-operative assessments, including patient history review, vital sign monitoring, and medication reconciliation.
- Prepare patients for surgery by providing education, starting an IV, obtaining informed consent, and addressing any questions or concerns.
Intra-Operative Care
- Assist in the setup and preparation of the operating room, ensuring that all equipment and supplies are available and functioning properly.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to provide intra-operative care, including positioning patients, assisting with surgical draping, and maintaining a sterile field.
- Administer medications and anesthesia as directed by the anesthesia provider, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure.
Post-Operative Care
- Monitor patients closely in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), assessing vital signs, pain levels, and recovery progress.
- Provide post-operative education and instructions to patients and caregivers, including wound care, medication management, and discharge planning.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized post-operative care plans based on patient needs and surgical outcomes.
Education/Compliance
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in electronic health records (EHR) or other clinical documentation systems.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
- Provide timely and appropriate reporting of any changes in patient status or clinical concerns to the appropriate healthcare providers.
- Adhere to all regulatory standards, policies, and procedures related to surgical nursing practice, infection control, and patient safety. Our facility is accredited by AAAHC.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience in an acute care or perioperative setting.
- BLS and ACLS (From American Heart Association) certification.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move patients and equipment as needed.
- Stamina to withstand long periods of standing and walking in a surgical environment.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity for tasks such as medication administration and wound care.
Working Conditions
Work may involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens, hazardous materials, and surgical procedures.
Schedule: Part-time: 2 Mondays a month, every Wednesday and Thursday
