Power Plant Supervisor

This position will oversee the staff that operates, maintains, and repairs diesel engines and gas turbine generator sets at East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD's) Power Generation Station (PGS) located at the main wastewater treatment plant.EBMUD's PGS includes large industrial stationary engines that run on multiple fuels and produce a total of 10.5 megawatts; a mix of 6 megawatt diesel and a 4.5 megawatt gas turbine. The Power Plant operates continuously, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.The work of this class involves responsibility for the coordinating, evaluating, and directing of the operation and maintenance of the facilities that make up the PGS at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The equipment operated and maintained includes but is not limited to multi-fuel engine - generators, gas fired turbine engines, the digester gas collection/storage/delivery and flaring system, the digester gas boiler, hot water loop, and distribution switchgear. Successful performance requires the ability to efficiently manage plant operations in order to meet production standards for electrical power generation without sacrificing maintenance standards and reliability of the facilities. Typical duties include:Operating or maintaining dual-fuel engines, generators, gas compressors, gas storage and delivery systems, switchgear, and supporting auxiliary equipment.Operating computer control interface systems for engine and load control.Starting up and shutting down Power Plant systems and machinery.Regulating electrical loads in the Power Plant according to standard operating procedures.Inspecting, adjusting and repairing various engine, machinery and equipment parts.Testing and troubleshooting equipment and machinery.Responding to audio and visual alarms concerning plant conditions.Writing detailed repair and inspection reports.The salary range is $11,968 per month increasing to $12,566, $13,194, and $13,854 after 6, 18, and 30 months, respectively.EBMUD is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Possession of a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.Other Requirements: Must be physically capable of the lifting, climbing, and standing as necessary to direct and inspect maintenance work. Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
