Kinder Morgan Engineering Group is currently seeking a Power Electrical Engineer (Up to 10 years experience), with proven power system analysis experience. The candidate must be knowledgeable of industry codes and standards (NFPA/NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, API).The successful candidate will serve as a Specialist Arc-Flash Engineer for the KM OSG Business Unit. This position is based in Houston, Texas, but will be required to travel to KM Terminals within the USA.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinate, and execute electrical arc-flash studies based on NFPA-70E, IEEE-1584, and NEC.
- Engineer and implement arc-flash mitigation schemes.
- ETAP modeling: Maintain existing power studies, motor starting limitations, short circuit, etc.
- Review power studies; evaluate flow values, short circuit levels, arc-flash levels and protective device coordination of 25KV to low voltage electrical distribution utilizing the ETAP software.
- Upgrade electrical installations to comply with NFPA 70, 70E, NESC, IEEE specifications, standards, and recommended practices.
- Expertise with power systems design and operations, 15KV/5KV power distribution, equipment and protective relaying.
- Recognize and promote ideas that provide safer, more efficient and cost effective operation, making sure that operating costs are consistent with budgetary constraints.
- Effectively plan, schedule, and manage multiple electrical projects and provide technical support to operations and team members.
- Preparation of project cost estimates (AFE’s). Cost and schedule control.
- Involvement in all electrical aspects of the projects, from conceptual, financial, through design, construction, start-up and commissioning.
- Provide root cause analysis on electrical equipment failures and major outages.
- Plans, prepares and/or reviews technical electrical specifications, procedures, drawings, and estimates.
- Review and approve ELECTRICAL ENGINEERing construction packages.
- Approve and/or create protection devices settings.

Working conditions
- A satisfactory driving record as determined by the Company and a current, valid State driver's license are required.
- Most be able to obtain a TWIC
- Working after hours, on holidays, and weekends depending on project requirements.
- Up to 15% travel required within USA to KM Terminals.
- Must be willing and able to carry a company cell phone.
- Experience working following strict safety rules in hazardous environments.
