CACI is looking for an Early CareerSpacecraft Electrical Power Systems Engineer to work with NASA's human-rated spacecraft systems in support of our Nation's space exploration initiative at NASA / Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Candidates should have great interest in aerospace vehicles and systems, enjoy working with electronics, Electrical Power Systems, and battery technologies. Candidates should have had an outstanding academic career, and most of all, possess a great passion to contribute to our Nation's exploration of space.
What You'll Get to Do:
This junior engineering position supports electronics, Electrical Power, battery, and charging systems for next generation space suits that will be used by astronauts to return to and explore the Lunar surface.
Specific assignments will involve segments of the full lifecycle of developing Power Systems including battery and charger systems. Tasks will include requirements development and assessment, architecture development, design analysis, testing and integration, and technical oversight. Related fabrication and test certification activities include prototyping and building ground support equipment (GSE) used for battery chargers, developing test requirements and test plans, and performing tests on the integrated systems.
The ideal candidate has an educational background and professional (including intern/co-op) with spacecraft domains in the following areas: Electrical Systems, Electrical Power Generation and Distribution, and Battery Technologies.
This work takes place in a highly stimulating environment and is critical in the human space exploration initiative. The position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must be very people savvy, strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise. Finally, the most qualified candidate will be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner, must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program, and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles and systems.
More About the Role:
Depending on assignment, Job Responsibilities with mentoring will grow to include:

  • Conduct and support power quality testing for portable loads (Electrical Power consuming equipment) adhering to ISS power quality standards.
  • Analyze power quality test results,
  • Present non-conforming test results to the ISS Electrical Power System leadership board and, when appropriate, draft Tailored Interpretation Agreements.
  • Support Missional Evaluation Room (MER) power system console.
  • Investigate and report on-orbit anomalies related to Electrical Power Consuming Equipment (EPCE) and distribution systems.
  • Critically assess problem resolution documentation for Power Systems and flight hardware.
  • Review drawing modifications and updates, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Review and provide feedback on Verification Closure Notices (VCNs).
  • Act as a liaison between NASA, contractors, and engineering teams to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to USG facilities.
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
  • Early career professional engineer. Prefer minimum of 2-3 years' experience. Greater experience is valued. However, new graduates considered, but prefer 3-6 months relevant work experience via student internships, co-ops, or support of university research labs, etc.
  • Minimum 3.5 GPA with strong background in electronics and Electrical Power Systems course work including, but not limited to:
    • Electrical breadboard prototyping.
    • Circuit analysis and simulation.
  • Must be flexible, open to new challenges in a dynamic environment, and possess strong technical expertise combined with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.
  • Must be highly mature and responsible, and team-oriented with strong communication skills and work ethic.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering with Graduate level coursework or research involving Power Systems and battery technologies.
  • Co-op or internship experience in the aerospace industry is a plus, particularly in the NASA JSC environment.
  • Experience with software tools such as Altium, Pro/E, and LabVIEW or similar software tools.
  • Experience with fabrication of electrical cabling and test fixtures.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux OS, and C, C++ languages.
  • Coursework and projects requiring software development to solve technical problems.
