The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow, Ichthyology for our Research & Collections - Ichthyology department. The Postdoctoral Fellow, Ichthyology works closely with the Assistant Curator, Ichthyology on a project quantifying microplastics in coastal fishes as part of a California Sea Grant- funded project at the Natural History Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
●Manage specimen sampling and microplastic laboratory work for multiple species across eight decades and along the entirety of the California coast.
●Analyze data for trends across time, space, plastic type and ecological role of each species.
● Work with collaborators to conduct RAMAN spectroscopy analyses.
● Mentor undergraduate students and postbaccalaureates in laboratory and analytical methods.
● Write manuscripts and submit for publication.
● Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Curator dependent on organizational needs.
This position has the following requirements:
● Strong data analysis skills, including proficiency in statistics and microplastic laboratory protocols.
● Strong organizational, managerial, and interpersonal skills.
● PhD in Biology, or other related discipline
● Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in all opportunities and outcomes associated with the research project.
● Experience with, and knowledge of, microplastic identification methods is strongly desired, not required.
● Experience with, and knowledge of, ichthyology and/or museums sciences is strongly desired, not required.

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience and commitment working with a diverse community. Salary range for this position is $66,418.00 - $71,418.00 based on experience plus excellent benefits. This is a Full-time temporary, exempt position with an anticipated end date of September 30, 2025. There may be an opportunity for a short extension past this anticipated end date.
