Description
San Joaquin Delta Community College District is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty member in Electron Microscopy. The ideal candidate will share in the college's commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.), the P.O.S.T. Academy Recruit Training Officer (RTO) will be responsible for oversight of instruction and the supervision of the Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Basic Academy students. The successful candidate will provide evidence of knowledge and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, and academic diversity within community college populations, and how these factors relate to the need for equity-minded and culturally-responsive practices in the community college setting.
Responsibilities and Duties
Duties and responsibilities may include, but not limited to the following:
  1. Effectively supervise the P.O.S.T. Basic Academy.
  2. Maintains P.O.S.T. mandated training standards.
  3. Promotes the effective use of instructional methods, technology, testing and remediation.
  4. Maintains Academy discipline; ensures that each student is treated with dignity and respect.
  5. Assists students in achieving stated course objectives. Evaluates the progress of each student and notifies students in need of counseling services and/or tutorial assistance. Tracks student learning outcomes and maintains records of student learning outcomes.
  6. Exercises responsibility for the integration and sequencing of instruction so that students are instructed and tested in a logical progression consistent with P.O.S.T. Training and Testing Specifications.
  7. Oversees training at Academy training facilities; maintains a safe and appropriate environment in support of instruction.
  8. Instructs courses, using updated methodological and pedagogical approaches, in the P.O.S.T. Academy to meet the educational requirements stated in the course description and the course information outlines.
  9. Maintains currency with on-going and new developments in the area of responsibility.
  10. Maintains current and complete inventories; submits requests as needed for Academy supplies, materials and equipment.
  11. Completes various reporting procedures as required; works effectively with college and P.O.S.T. staff.
  12. Participate in departmental, divisional, advisory, and campus-wide committees as part of the shared-governance process and service area needs of the District.
  13. Provides direction and guidance for the academy.
  14. Ensures training and testing specifications are current and meet P.O.S.T. guidelines.
  15. Maintains high standards of the P.O.S.T. testing process and related materials.
  16. Work collaboratively with the college to promote student equity and success.
  17. Ensures student evaluations are completed within guidelines of college's policies.
  18. Maintain office hours for students and participate in additional service hours/activities that benefit the student, college or community.
  19. Participates in the departmental process of curriculum review, modification, and the assessment of student learning outcomes in order to make the program successful.
  20. Performs other necessary duties, which assure the smooth functioning of the P.O.S.T. Basic Academy, as assigned by the Director of Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.), and as outlined in Board Policy.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree or higher and two years of directly related experience
OR
Any associate degree and six years of directly related experience
OR
the equivalent.
  • Hold, has held, or qualified to obtain, basic peace officer certification as required by the State of California Commission on Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.).
  • Must have or had sworn, full-time law enforcement experience.
  • Meet P.O.S.T. Academy Instructor Certification standards.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to race, ethnicity, color, religious creed, sex, gender expression, gender identity, age, national origin, ancestry, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, military status, prior contact with the criminal legal system, or any other biases prohibited by law.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different student abilities, learning styles, cultures, and groups mentioned above.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in a variety of settings. A willingness to develop and utilize instructional materials, including lectures and labs for multiple modalities.
  • Ability to use innovative and creative teaching techniques (lecture and labs) and equipment such as multimedia hardware, current applications, learning management systems, and online instructional strategies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of P.O.S.T. requirements.
  • Ability to work with advisory committees in the development and revision of curriculum, job placement strategies, and program review.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in an active physical training program.

Supplemental Information
  • Maximum starting salary is $117,978 annually.
  • All faculty positions are on a 10-month calendar.
