The Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing and reporting the health of portfolios and company-wide initiatives at the enterprise level. They create new or improve existing portfolio and project management processes, practices, work products, templates, and tools to successfully achieve business objectives and quality project execution within the portfolio. Portfolio Managers work with IT leaders, managers, business analysts, Agile teams, customers, and stakeholders to implement the portfolio and project management practices, ensuring they are understood, adopted, and flexible in meeting the needs of users. They ensure that large company sponsored initiatives meet expectations from key stakeholders and are delivered within agreed upon timeframes. Portfolio Managers identify and manage risks accordingly and ensure appropriate mitigation strategies are put in place. Our ideal candidate will have experience working with software delivery teams and embrace Agile methodologies. They will be detail oriented and focused on quality results as well as excellent communication practices.
Job Duties/Essential Functions:
- Leads the lifecycle of portfolio prioritization, from managing value propositions in the enterprise roadmap to creating features/epics for product backlogs.
- Plays a significant role in assessing the nature of the initiative as cross product or cross value stream; assesses the need for a solution delivery office.
- Centralizes and facilitates demand intakes, baselines, and governance gates.
- Drives portfolio management processes to ensure strategic alignment on technologies and goals alongside the enterprise architecture team.
- Coordinates with Product Managers for their respective product backlogs and progress of the existing products in development.
- Develops reporting metrics and portfolio dashboards to allow for repeatable/predictable project/product release success and visibility into areas struggling with scope, schedule, resources, or budget.
- Collaborates to develop, manage, and optimize portfolio management methodologies and disciplines.
- Socializes and coaches IT team members on the utilization of portfolio tools and processes.
- Facilitates and confirms resource and budget planning with the IT teams on new demands and partners to sequence projects into the Portfolio.
- Identifies dependencies and critical paths and develops processes to maintain dependency tracking between product roadmaps and projects in collaboration with Management and project managers.
- Improves and streamlines the portfolio and project lifecycle, by working closely with leadership, user base, and tools teams.
- Identifies and resolves problems often anticipating issues before they occur or before they grow; develops and evaluates options and implements solutions.
- Analyzes and optimizes the configuration of the Portfolio tool set to create added functionality.
- Analyzes project risk profile and balances at the portfolio level.
- Drives capacity planning for initial and ongoing identification of resource needs and scheduling that will be used for making critical portfolio decisions.
- Evaluates and identifies areas for improvement in the project and program lifecycle and develops analyses and reporting to target and monitor improvement trends.
- Assists and coordinates with portfolios to ensure they understand intent behind large initiatives including business impact and business returns on investments.
- Monitors and reports on the progress of company initiatives across multiple portfolios, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Partners with Product Managers (both Business and Technology) to collect, interpret and accurately depict work status.

- Experience using Microsoft Teams, Smartsheet, and Microsoft Azure DevOps is helpful.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Successful internal candidates will have spent one year or more on their current team.
Salary Range: $100,000 - $140,000
