Position OverviewDo you enjoy organization and more detailed work? Do you like being around books? Successful candidates for the collection Maintenance Student Assistant position will work in the book stacks to sort and beautify the Watson book stacks!Job DescriptionYou will work to keep the Watson book stacks fit for efficient navigation and usage by sorting books by their call number into their appropriate stack section and regularly performing duties to keep the Watson stacks neat and orderly. You will also occasionally answer questions or provide directions to patrons who appear lost or need guidance in the stacks.
Required Qualifications
KU Student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours per semesterWillingness to maintain assigned work scheduleMust be able to work a minimum of 8 hours per weekCommitment to ongoing training in addition to work scheduleAbility to stand for long periods of timePreferred QualificationsStrong attention to detail and enjoys organizationStrong commitment to providing a neat environment for patron usage and excellent customer service to library usersLibrary work experience and/or familiarity with KU Libraries as a userAbility to adjust to occasional change in workflowAvailability to work when classes are not in session.Knowledge of the Library of Congress classifications systemAbility to self-direct and stay on taskAble to maneuver and push heavy book trucksAdditional Candidate InstructionsApplicants are required to attach a cover letter or resume, highlighting customer service skills and experience.
