Position OverviewThe student will work with the collections manager and other student hourly/volunteers on a variety of division initiatives which will vary depending on the students experience and level of expertise. Activities may include inventory, scanning archives, cataloging, data entry, re-housing, and photography of
Archaeology Collections. Student might also assist with general cleaning. This position specifically will be working with federal collections curated at KU in compliance with 36 CFR Part 79 (Curation of Federally Owned or Administered Archaeological Collections).Job DescriptionThe student will assist with a number of activities, possibly including inventory, cataloging, re-housing, photography, NAGPRA compliance, photocopying, scanning documents, vacuuming office and storage spaces and database data entry.Required Qualifications
Attention to detail. Experience with Excel or spreadsheets.During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Preferred Qualifications
- Comfortable using a ladder.
- Experience using a DSLR camera.
- Experience with Photoshop, Lightroom, Capture One or similar photography software.
- Coursework in Museum Studies, Anthropology, Indigenous Studies or related topics.
