Mondelēz International, Inc. (Mondelēz) is looking for a Public and Government Affairs (PGA) professional to join our DC-based Global Government Affairs team. Mondelēz empowers people to snack right in over 150 countries around the world. We are leading the future of snacking with iconic global and local brands such as Oreo, Ritz, LU, Clif Bar, and Tate's Bake Shop biscuits and baked snacks, and Cadbury Dairy Milk, Milka, and Toblerone chocolate.
In this role, you will help develop and execute global Public and Government Affairs (PGA) workstreams in concert with other members of the Global PGA team. You will support Mondelēz’s Vice President of Global Government Affairs and Corporate and Government Affairs (CGA) teams around the world in advocating for the company’s interests and engaging policy makers and influencers to shape government measures material to our business.Overarching Role
Support Mondelēz’s Vice President of Global Government Affairs.
Partner with other members of the Global PGA and Business Unit (BU) CGA teams around the world.
Help execute the global PGA work program.
Lead in managing Mondelēz’s Washington, DC office.
Specific ResponsibilitiesPolicy and Political Research
Monitor and summarize press reports, articles, government publications, and think tank and trade association briefing papers on policy and political developments relevant to Mondelēz’s business.
Research policy issues of interest to Mondelēz, e.g., in the following areas:
nutrition, health, and well-being;
climate change;
deforestation;
plastic waste;
human and labor rights;
supply chain due diligence;
ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) reporting;
cross-border trade and investment;
direct and indirect taxation;
price controls.
Information Gathering
Partner with other functions to gather and distill information relevant to Mondelēz’s PGA agenda, including the following:
public and private sector initiatives aimed at addressing health and well-being challenges;
insights into consumer shopping and eating behavior;
geopolitical developments;
state of play in global initiatives, e.g., the UN treaty negotiations on plastic waste;
different approaches governments take to legislating/regulating in a specific policy area;
data on size, shape, and composition of Mondelēz’s regional and global value chains.
Asset Development
Assist in designing global enablers – templates, toolkits, etc. - for BU use in execution of PGA strategies.
Monitoring Support and Issues Management
Partner with other members of the Global Government Affairs team, external agencies, and BU CGA teams in tracking government rulemaking in priority policy areas:
nutrition, health, and well-being;
social and environmental sustainability;
license to operate (tax, trade, investment, labor, price controls).
Collaborate with Global Government Affairs and BU CGA colleagues in updating BU advocacy priority trackers.
Presentations and Other Written Materials
Fashion PowerPoint presentations for a variety of audiences, including senior leaders and multicultural teams.
Draft briefers, background papers, and talking points.
Internal Meetings
Schedule, develop programming for, and take notes and participate in internal meetings, including the following:
weekly meetings of the Global Government Affairs team,
bi-monthly meetings of the Global PGA Community of Practice,
periodic PGA in the Spotlight sessions,
bi-monthly discussions between the Vice President of Global Government Affairs and BU CGA leads.
External Engagement
Represent Mondelēz and advance its interests in external meetings with the following:
government officials and legislators from around the world,
trade associations,
business coalitions,
think tanks,
international organizations.
Budget, Expenses, and Office Management
Manage the Global Government Affairs budget.
Procure reimbursement of business expenses.
Lead in managing Mondelēz’s Washington, DC office.
Directories and Inventories
Maintain a current directory of the members of Mondelēz’s global CGA team and those on this team dedicated to PGA work.
Keep an inventory of government stakeholders engaged by members of the Global Government Affairs team.
Qualifications and Skills
5+ years government (public sector) and/or Government Affairs (private sector) work experience.
Knowledge of policy issues relevant to the food industry.
Graduate degree in international relations, business, economic policy, and/or sustainability policy.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Ability to distill complex and lengthy material into simple, succinct summaries.
Collaborative and proactive way of working, good people skills, and can-do attitude.
Experience working with colleagues from a wide variety of cultures.
Time management, priority setting, results-orientation, and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and change focus with shifting priorities.
Facility with PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Concur.
