Overview of Part Time Business Advisor
This position is Part Time (20 hours/week). Benefits to apply.
The Northwest Indiana Small Business Development Center Network (NW-ISBDC) is seeking a Part Time Business Advisor. The primary role of the Business Advisor is to provide Small Business assistance, usually in the form of one-to-one counseling of clients to assist business owners and start-up entrepreneurs in moving their businesses forward. To contribute to economic development in the region by being a resource to aid Small Businesses in growing. The position is client-focused and the advisor counsels in the area of business plan development; preparing financial statements such as cash flow projections, providing assistance in applying for funding, offering recommendations on business strategies; assisting with marketing plan, Business Development, sales strategies, market research and other related areas.
The Business Advisor represents the ISBDC in the community, advocates for Small Business and entrepreneurship and engages with public and private stakeholders in the region. The NW-ISBDC is a resource for both existing businesses and entrepreneurs looking to launch a business. We offer advice to help businesses grow and to help start-ups take off from the ground level.
This position offers great flexibility by providing you with a hybrid work environment. You can enjoy working both from home and in the office.
This position would be ideal for a successful business owner currently or in the past who has a passion to share expertise with Small Businessesand start-ups.
Pay: $23.50 - $24.50/hour
Schedule: Flexible days/times to equal 20 hours per week
Duties and Responsibilities of Business Advisor
  • Meet with and advise clients on developing their businesses
  • Provide market and other analyses to assist client meetings
  • Record content and outcomes of client meetings in CRM data base
  • Engage with educational, technical assistance, and government and community partners
  • Network and speak at area events
  • Travel throughout the geographic area served
  • Early morning and evening meetings may be required

Education of Business Advisor
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business, accounting, finance, marketing or a related field
  • Masters of Business Administration desirable

Experience of Business Advisor
  • Three years with progressively responsible positions in business and/or industry management and supervisory experience preferred
  • Two or more years of ownership or senior management of a Small Business (significant, successful Small Business ownership or management may be substituted for academic qualifications), desired
  • Direct experience providing information, advice, counsel and training to businesses preferred
  • Experience with financial statements, business plans, and business loan packages desired

  • Business Acumen - practical application of business operations, including finance, operations, systems, marketing, staffing, public relations
  • Significant financial or bookkeeping experience desirable
  • Identify Client's Needs - asking questions to determine specific needs of the customer
  • Provide Added Value to Clients- stays on top of market and business trends and is seen as a valuable resource to the client
  • Makes Persuasive Presentations -this includes both content and delivery whether in person or virtual
  • Educates Client - helps client understand processes and procedures that will enable them to meet their goals
  • Client Relationships - builds and manages strong client relationships
  • Adapts Approach to Different Clients - works with each client based on their specific need
  • Communication - ability to provide communicate effectively with diverse individuals and audiences, bilingual desirable In-depth Knowledge of financial statements such as cash flow projections, income statements and balance sheets
  • Analysis and Judgment - ability to analyze spreadsheets, documents and situations and make reasonable judgments about next steps
  • Executive Presence - works with other senior leaders as a peer and is seen as such
  • Experience in the following computer systems: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, online applications, required
