The Service Manager is an operational supervisor who leads plumbers and plumbing apprentices that install, repair, service, and maintain Commercial and Multi-Family plumbing systems, building equipment systems for light/ heavy commercial customers such as restaurants, hospitals, high rise residential and retail stores.
Reports to: Director of Operations
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Routinely work directly with service and install plumbers and apprentices, dispatch, billing and other personnel to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Work directly with customers, vendors and suppliers to ensure accurate communication of job or project management and requirements.
- Recruit, hire, train, motivate and improve the field technicians based on company values.
- Communicate regularly with dispatch to ensure that personnel are being scheduled properly by skill level, efficiency, and training requirements.
- Bring more energy than you take, because you will set the tone every day for the entire department.
- Encourage and inspire technicians to grow and hit their goals.
- Provides technical support for plumbing technicians to meet service demands and customer expectations.
- Identify training needs of staff and facilitate delivery of a regular training program to ensure that plumbing staff are properly trained on the latest service techniques and safety procedures for equipment and general working conditions.
- Review technicians work, techniques, and safety requirements to ensure quality meets established standards, and makes recommendations to improve quality and productivity.
- Conduct performance appraisals and for setting improvement goals.
- Ensure employee safety training and compliance is completed.
- Responsible for working with technicians in the field and resolving customer’s and technician’s issues.
- Communicate daily with dispatch reporting on project information, estimated time to complete jobs, labor hours and parts or material used.
- Review work orders, invoices and time reports for accuracy and work to assist collections personnel to maintain minimal accounts receivables.
- Develop and monitor budgets, goals and objectives to insure departmental profitability.
- Maintain communication concerning warranty issues, product recall notices, operational problems with products, premature failures and other issues.
- Monitor assigned service vehicles to ensure they are being maintained, operated according to company policy, and that an adequate inventory of parts and material are maintained.
- Monitors Plumbing Service vehicles to ensure they are in an acceptable condition to allow technicians to efficiently work out of the vehicle, and that an adequate inventory of parts and material are maintained.
- Work with other departmental managers to meet company and departmental goals and objectives.
- Other tasks and responsibilities as required to maintain efficient department operations.
Qualifications
- Excellent customer service and sales skills o Ability to perform Advanced Level service of plumbing systems and equipment. (Required)
- 2+ years of successful and recent Plumbing Service management experience.
- Problem-solving and conflict management skills
- Ability to generate ideas and create processes to grow the service department.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to work well with management, executive leadership, support staff, and technicians.
- Ability and willingness to work a non-standard schedule: nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
- Technical aptitude with knowledge of local codes and an ability to use resources at hand to find solutions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and strong conflict management skills
- Detail oriented and highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments
- Possess a strong personal desire for improvement; and the desire to motivate plumbing technicians to be better tomorrow than they are today
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and background required
Education and/or Experience
2+ years of successful and recent Plumbing Service management experience.
2 years technical training program (preferred).
Solid working knowledge of Google Suite and the ability to learn new systems.
Language Skills
Bilingual a plus
Physical Qualifications
Ability to lift 25 pounds, work in extreme conditions, similar requirements of field personnel.
