Job Title: Plant Safety Compliance and Training Coordinator

Reporting to the Reliability and Technical Department, the Plant Safety Compliance and Training Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and guidelines throughout the plant. They play a critical role in promoting a safe working environment by working with plant personnel on implementation and auditing of Plant Safety model programs and building standard operating procedures. The primary goal is to build and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Help to maintain a highly skilled workforce to ensure an efficient operation, consistent with overall company objectives.
  • Implementation of USG corporate safety model programs and policies at the plant level
  • Ensure compliance with local, MIOSHA, OSHA, Factory Mutual and Company environmental and safety regulations. Recommend and implement corrective actions which can be made to meet this goal.
  • Act as the overall Plant Safety model program administrator working with model program co-owners to ensure compliance through audits.
  • Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (LOTO, electrical safe work practices, lifting and rigging, working at heights, noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
  • Conduct program audits, risk assessments, and enforce preventative measures.
  • Review existing policies and measures and update according to regulations.
  • Initiate and organize onboarding and recurring safety training of plant personnel.
  • Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g., not using protective equipment)
  • Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
  • Assist with recording and investigating incidents to determine root cause and develop corrective actions.
  • Prepare reports on safety occurrences and provide statistical information to management.
  • Work with respective plant departments to develop and implement safe and efficient standard operating procedures.
  • Works directly with vendors and contractors
  • Assist the Plant Safety committee in a manner that provides productive results.
  • Participating as needed in safety inspections, including the SAR process.
  • Spending time in the plant on a regular frequency to gauge training progress and engagement levels.
  • Responsible for storage and retention of all training documentation

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • In depth knowledge of safety regulations and procedures
    • OSHA, MIOSHA, NFPA, etc.
  • Certificate in occupational health and safety preferred.
  • Must be a self-starter, proactive, and have a structured mindset & can make good decisions with little supervision.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft office suite, spreadsheets, data entry, etc.)
    • Experience with EAM, Oracle, CORE EHS is a plus.
  • A high level of organizational skills, time management, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and decision-making skills.
  • Capable of delivering training one-on-one and in group settings
  • Knowledge of Safety Compliance programs.
  • Must be a team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be interested in personal growth and development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Some weekend and off-shift hours may be required to interact with employees on all shifts.

Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
