The Plant and Control (P&C) operator II is responsible for safe, reliable and efficient lithium facility operations to ensure a successful outcome of lithium development opportunities for the company. The position is responsible for operating and monitoring plant equipment outside and from the control room. The P&C operator -2 monitors plant performance and takes corrective action based upon independent judgment of alarms received, records operational data, takes samples for laboratory analysis, reports any abnormalities, assists in coordinating, directing and training the assigned crew and performs minor maintenance tasks. All duties are performed in accordance with approved procedures, guidelines and operating directives in effect. Work is performed with minimal supervision and direction from the plant manager.
Typical Duties
Monitor and operate all equipment systems using the distributed control system and ensure safe, environmentally compliant and reliable operation of the lithium production facilities with a Target Zero mindset. Maintain the facility and Control room in a safe and clean operating condition. Record operational data, take samples for laboratory analysis, and report any abnormalities. (30%)
Coordinate the startup, operation and shutdown of all equipment. (20%)
Responsible for recording and maintaining control room records, i.e., logs, reading sheets, pertinent data, observations and trends regarding normal and transient operation. Responsible for ensuring facility reports are timely, accurate and complete. (15%)
Provide technical assistance in equipment diagnosis and problem solving as directed by the plant manager. Coordinate causality control measures during plant upset conditions, including containment, control and corrective actions. (10%)
Perform mechanical duties, preventive and predictive maintenance, minor and/or emergency repairs. Communicate with other departments and outside service regarding resources needed to complete assignments. (10%)
Responsible for progressing in the company training program and assisting others within the program. (10%)
Adhere to, support and enforce all company safety and environmental rules, policies and procedures. (5%)
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques and tools.
Associate’s or technical degree; relevant certification or equivalent work experience. (Typically, three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate or technical degree.)
Two or more years plant operation experience including full competency in outside operator job duties and distributed control systems experience; completion of or currently participating in the technical skills and certification program; or equivalent education and experience. Knowledge of personal computer software applications, including spreadsheet, word processing and database.
Effective oral and written communication skills, including the use of a radio and group presentations. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence accurately.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to calculate figures and amounts including percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Effective ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
A valid California driver’s license is required.

At times the employee is required to sit for long periods of time, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The individual is required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. While performing the duties of this job the employee may work near moving machinery and may be exposed to fumes and airborne particles. Occasionally the employee is exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, as well as loud areas and hot piping.
During the course of performing assigned duties the employee may be required to work with or be exposed to hazardous substances and occupational hazards. The company will provide the employee with initial training on all known hazardous substances and occupational hazards prior to allowing the employee to perform a particular duty unsupervised. Annual refresher training will also be provided on all known hazards and new hazards as they are identified.
