Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

 

THE DEPARTMENT

The Credential Services unit is the centralized point of contact for all students wishing to enter the teaching profession. The unit is responsible for. collecting and processing program admissions documents for students applying to enter early childhood studies practicum, teaching and services credential programs; providing guidance and counsel to students who seek to earn both basic credentials and advanced credentials; monitoring progress toward the desired credential or certificate; reviewing, analyzing, evaluating, and processing applications for credentials upon completion of the programs); and supporting the credential program in recruitment and assessment. The unit is responsible for ensuring that educator candidates meet all standards and processes required by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and California State University Chancellor's Office and is the primary source on campus for faculty, staff, and students who seek information regarding the credentialing process and for disseminating new standards and practices approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordination of Early Childhood Studies Practicum Placements: Maintain and update the ECS Practicum Orientation Site.
  • Analyze pre-approved practicum applications and assign students to days, times, and appropriate early childhood program sites based on the application responses.
  • Complete the practicum contract template and send it to Early Childhood Practicum students and collect signed contracts from students.
  • Send a letter of assignment to each site contact. Send a final list of student placement assignments to the agency, copy ECS ASC.
  • Send Welcome Packet to Mentor Teachers (copy site administrators and ECS faculty). Make sound judgments independently regarding the appropriateness of practicum placements and respond to problematic situations that may arise by implementing departmental procedures and involving appropriate parties.
  • This position will have to work independently to assess situations that arise before and after business hours (i.e. sick calls before the school day begins, leaves, problems in the classroom etc.)
  • Ensure strong and cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and district/site partners are maintained during placement situations requiring departmental intervention.
  • Identify, assess, organize, and coordinate placements with district and school administrators as potential sites according to specific placement needs for Early Childhood practicum students.
  • Serve as liaison and respond to inquiries from faculty, staff, various university departments, Early Childhood site administrators, district and school administrators and personnel, and the general public regarding practicum maters via person-to-person discussions, emails, letters, telephone calls, or in group sessions.
  • Interpret, articulate, and enforce specific policies and procedures as administered by the State of CA and CCTC. Serve as a liaison between the Early Childhood site administrators and Early Childhood Studies Department.
  • This position will work with the Department Chair for ECS and Dean and Associate Dean to review and create policies and practices for guidance, however, considerable judgment and discretion reflective of a thorough knowledge of a professional administrative specialty and/or program and/or policy areas need to be exercised.
  • Update and maintain the Early Childhood data on site arrangements and work with the Early Childhood Studies Department and the Assessment and Data Coordinator for data input needed for the Early Childhood Studies Department and NAEYC accreditation.
  • Review, analyze and manipulate placement data, if necessary, to generate various reports for distribution, district and school site administrators, and university supervisors detailing all placement information.
  • Compile and maintain data and documents for local, state, and national accreditation processes and report generation. Perform data analysis regarding program enrollment to make accurate projections regarding the number of ECS Practicum placements needed each semester. Some site visitations may be required.
  • Support special events, i.e. invitations, RSVPs, spreadsheet of costs, staffing the registration table, etc. Periodically, the employee will assist with events aimed at supporting practicum candidates, students, and supervisor orientations. The employee must be able to plan for events, create professional reminders, and handle budget monitoring.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree AND/OR the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
  • Two (2) years of related experience

Working knowledge of, and ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to the program and/or administrative specialty to develop conclusions and make recommendations; thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the applicable program and/or administrative specialty; working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis and techniques; ability to take initiative and plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved. Skill in research, development and evaluation of policies and programs, including skill in the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications; ability to anticipate problems and address them proactively; demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or presentation form; ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of child development permit requirements
  • Willingness to learn about Early Childhood practicum requirements.
  • Experience with California credentialing process.
  • Knowledge of P-12 education and early childhood agencies.
  • Professional demeanor on the phone and in the office.
  • Comprehensive and detailed working knowledge of university infrastructure, policies, and procedures. Excellent oral and written communications skills

CSU Classification Salary Range

The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is minimum $4,170 and maximum $7,545 per month.
