You will serve as a Physical Science Technician in the Radiological Monitoring Division, RADCON Office of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.Qualifications: GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
- Experience performing radiological safety monitoring through prevention and control of nuclear incidents to protect shipyard employees.
- Experience performing various phases of complicated operations with radioactive systems projects.
- Experience ensuring compliance with radiological safety requirements and recommending changes to improve the safety and efficiency of procedures.
- Experience applying knowledge of a) radiological principles, requirements, and procedures, b) trade work techniques and procedures, and c) the design and layout of Naval Nuclear Propulsion systems to ensure radiological safety requirements are met.
- Experience evaluating various incidents and assuming full control of activities, directing necessary emergency actions to contain radiation, including "stop work", minimizing effects, determining causes, correcting deficiencies, and identifying mitigation practices.
- Experience performing radiological safety monitoring through prevention and control of nuclear incidents to protect shipyard employees.
- Experience performing various phases of operations with radioactive systems projects.
- Experience ensuring compliance with radiological safety requirements and recommending changes to improve the safety and efficiency of procedures.
- Experience assisting with evaluating various incidents and identifying mitigation practices.

GS-08: Successful completion of one and a half years of graduate education leading to a master's degree with major study in an appropriate field of PHYSICAL SCIENCE, or included courses in PHYSICAL SCIENCE, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics.
GS-07: Successful completion of one full year of graduate education leading to a master's degree with major study in an appropriate field of PHYSICAL SCIENCE, or included courses in PHYSICAL SCIENCE, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics.
One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
