Description
The Office of University Relations at the University of Tennessee at Martin is accepting applications for University Photographer. Under direction of the Assistant Director for News and Visuals, this position coordinates all photographic services provided to the university community, including planning, coordinating and scheduling photo assignments; creates high-level photographs (both documentary and studio photography) using professional digital photography equipment for use in student-recruitment publications, news, social media, general university, college and departmental publications, intercollegiate athletics publications and various online and digital publications; covers after-hours and weekend assignments; provides high-level action photography for intercollegiate athletics; maintains digital photo archives and online university photo assets via UT Martin's PhotoShelter website (utm.edu/photo); orders and maintains equipment and supplies; meets multiple photo deadlines, including filling photos live during certain events for social media, etc.; supervises student employees; attends evening and/or weekend activities when needed, plus occasional travel to the university's educational outreach centers, sports tournaments and professional development activities; performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Three years professional photography experience in a professional setting, including educational, editorial and journalistic outlets.
Ability and knowledge to operate Apple computers.
Ability to edit photos using Photoshop.
Excellent visual composition skills with the ability to conceptualize and produce story telling images in varied locations and lighting situations.
Knowledge of studio/portrait lighting.
Demonstrated sports action-photography skills.
Ability to problem-solve various technical challenges.
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work in a team environment and independently.
Ability to work and get along with a variety of clients across campus.
Ability to collaborate effectively on assignments with the social media coordinator and members of the athletics communications staff.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to care for several pieces of photography equipment and the photography studio.
Attention to details and follow through.
Ability to carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds - without lifting devices - for distances up to 100 yards.
Ability to spend extended periods of time working at a computer station.
Ability to spend extended periods of time working outside or in the field capturing photos of events.
The successful candidate must be willing to relocate to Martin or live within a 25-mile radius of the main campus.
Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed.
Ability to maintain an established work schedule.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with an emphasis or major in photography/videography/electronic media (other areas may be considered).
Five or more years in a professional photography setting.
Background in photojournalism or commercial photography.
Knowledge of PhotoMechanic and PhotoShelter.
