Job Overview:
As part of our mission to provide engaging and visually compelling content, we are seeking a talented Photo Editor to support the Curation & Platforms team by pulling engaging photos and shaping the visual narrative for Yahoo News. You will be responsible for editing and curating images that effectively complement our curation and captivate our audience.

Fully remote role unless near New York and candidate would like to come onsite.

Requirements:
• Experience as a Photo Editor in a fast-paced digital news environment.
• Experience with photo curation.
• Able to adjust colors and contrasts on photos as needed.
• Proficiency in photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and other relevant tools.
• Strong eye for visual storytelling, composition, and aesthetics, with a demonstrated ability to curate impactful imagery.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across editorial, design, and technical teams.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Superior news judgment.
• Knowledge of copyright laws, image licensing agreements, and best practices for sourcing and acquiring visual assets.
• Flexibility to adapt to evolving news cycles and deadlines, with a keen sense of urgency and attention to detail.

Responsibilities:
• Curate the desktop and mobile home screen presentations, and strategically select photographs that resonate with our audience and spark interest, encouraging users to engage with and explore additional content.
• Thoughtfully select and curate a diverse range of high-quality photographs to feature prominently on the Yahoo Homepage, offering maximum impact.
• Support coverage of significant news events and tentpoles.
• Ensure visual consistency and coherence across all curated imagery, adhering to brand guidelines and editorial standards.
• Pay attention to detail in image composition, color balance, and overall aesthetic to create a visually cohesive and appealing home page experience.
• Continuously monitor trends in visual storytelling.
• Maintain a sharp awareness of current events, trends, and cultural developments to inform image selection and curation strategies.
• Work with the Curation team to analyze user engagement metrics and performance data to optimize photo selection strategies and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Collaborate closely with editorial teams to understand content priorities and thematic focus areas for the Yahoo Homepage.
• Apply advanced photo editing techniques to enhance the quality, composition, and impact of images featured on the Homepage, ensuring quality and highest level of standards.
• Optimize images for various platforms and resolutions, ensuring an optimal and consistent viewing experience for our audience.
• Proactively seek out compelling imagery that resonates with our audience and enhances the storytelling capabilities of our news platform.
