- Performs Venipuncture and capillary draws on patients of all ages
- Works on inpatient units and emergency department
- Prioritizes draws appropriately to meet turnaround time goals
- Opportunity to cross-train in registration and specimen processing
- Works collaboratively with medical technologists and nursing staff to ensure lab orders are completed timely
- Utilizes handheld order management equipment
- Adheres to standards of proper patient identification in the collection of laboratory specimens
- Performs Point of Care Testing and Breath Alcohol Testing if competent as required
- Collects, receives and delivers specimens to laboratory departments in a timely manner
- Prepares specimens for analysis, loads automated instruments
- Handles phone calls received on handheld phones or in the laboratory front office
- Promotes a clean and safe environment of care, utilizing the SAFE error prevention habits
- Provides the highest standard of privacy and confidentiality in matters involving patients, coworkers, and the hospital by abiding by the Standards of Conduct
Required Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or equivalent
- Phlebotomy Certification, American Society Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or eligible. Must obtain ASCP certification within 6 months of hire
