Form of workThe Chief Data Officer (CDO) mission is to meet Allied World's growth and efficiency targets by delivering secured data solutions faster and in a cost-efficient way. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and great collaborator with ability to bring together business leaders, vendors, and technology leaders to:
Create a data strategy and roadmap across all business and function lines.
Ensure investment dollars towards solutions are in line with the strategy.
Ensure business and functions align with value statement.
Ensure value is obtained in short increments (not mega project).
Ensure vendors and product teams are accountable for delivery with clear definition of roles and responsibilities.
Ensure solutions are delivered by the team on-time and on-budget.
The leader is required take a hands-on approach to create a culture of execution across the organization, and specifically:
o Delivery: Lead data delivery teams to strengthen, stabilize and simplify access to data, while delivering tangible value to our business stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
o Cross-Functional Collaboration: In leading this function, the role will require strong collaboration, problem-solving & cross-functional leadership skills, both internally and with external vendors/partners.
o Innovation & Thought Leadership: The leader will also partner with delivery, platforms, and innovation committees to scan the industry and incubate new solutions and eventually roll out modern solutions to the organization and revolutionize the way organization leverages data.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver Data Solutions - "What and Why"
Partners with SLT & ELT leadership to build an enterprise data strategy and roadmap while enabling each business and function to leverage data for growth & efficiency.
Build a modern data organization from the group up including architecture, governance, data quality, data engineering, analytics and reference data.
Build a "data committee" inviting business & function leaders to oversee the data initiatives and spread awareness on the data quality and accessibility of the organization.
Partners with Strategy & Planning team to influence and guide the organization in ensuring technology investment dollars are prioritized and aligns with the strategy and roadmap.
Drives partnership while creating an agile culture and mindset and ensuring business/functions truly see the agile nature of building and deploying solutions.
Rationalizes list of vendors and builds a strategic partnership with vendors while driving accountability for strategy and delivery.
Builds, Mentors and coaches the data organization bringing together product owners, data development team, and vendor teams to create a culture of delivery and collaboration with open mind set.
Leads the assessment/evaluation of data solutions required by the different business partners and guides them through platform centric approach.
Consolidates existing technologies, optimize resources, and define a reference architecture aligned with applications needs and our Cloud strategies
Partner with larger IT organization and bring them all together in ensuring solutions being rolled out are integrated, secured, data centric and globally supported.
Empower people and foster effective delivery practices and culture in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift fast.
Well informed Stakeholders and users - "Who"
Lead a monthly 'Data delivery' review with each senior stakeholder and provide transparency on all of the data initiatives.
Influence and motivate the business, data and product leads to create a culture of delivery.
Partner with Information Security, Infrastructure, Product, and Innovation leaders and provide them with a strategy/roadmap on the current state of data and steps to transform the organization and establish itself as a true enabler for delivery.
Through providing regular updates, on both strategic and tactical plans e.g. Roadmap reviews and demos.
Grow the Agile Practice at Allied World - "How"
Transparency: Create extreme transparency on how each initiative is progressing. Partner with strategy and planning, and business leaders in order to effectively strategize and ensure any investment in IT is as per the strategy and roadmap.
Accountability: Ensure business, vendors, product, and entire IT organization roles and responsibilities are clearly defined. Ensure all parties take accountability for their roles, while product team owning the ultimate accountability for bringing it all together and delivering a solution.
Cost Effective: Stretch investment $ by partnering with vendor partners and ensuring there is a global delivery and support model that enables the organization to invest more on initiatives.
Innovation: Partner with the innovation committee to understand the solution eco system in the industry that have a significant strategic, long-term impact on the business. Bring technical knowledge into the organization from external sources and link new, emerging technologies with business needs.
Culture: Nurture an environment where team can thrive in creativity to incubate new innovative technology/solutions that have practical and positive impact to the business.
Compensation
The below annualized base pay range is a broad range based on analysis of similar positions in the market. The actual base pay for the position may be above or below he listed range and determined by a number of considerations, including but now limited to complexity, location, and scope of the role, along with experience, skills, education, training, and other conditions of employment. Base salary represents one compensation of Allied World comprehensive total reward package, which may also include annual incentive compensation rewards.
