Job Description: Front End Pharmacy Technician
Supervised by: Pharmacist, Director of Operations
Job Responsibilities:
Assists health care providers and patients by greeting them in person and by phone; answering questions and requests; referring inquiries to the pharmacist. Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Maintains records by recording and filing physicians' orders and prescriptions. Ensures medication availability by delivering medications to patients and departments. Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Job Duties:
- Utilizes all available resources to obtain and enter insurance coverage information for ordered services into patient's profile.
- Verifies patient insurance coverage of medications related pharmacy services.
- Facilitates and completes the Prior Authorization process with insurance companies and practitioner offices.
- Notifies patients, physicians, practitioners and/or clinics of any financial responsibility.
- Provides notification of urgent orders to the pharmacist and communicates with other departments when an urgent need for filling a prescription or delivery is necessary, places outbound calls to patients or physicians' offices to obtain additional information needed to process the script or to notify of a delay in processing a script.
- Manages inbound calls from patients, clients, physicians, practitioners, and clinics regarding inquiries about services provided, financial responsibility and insurance coverage
- Troubleshoots and resolves billing rejections and subsequently rebills claims to appropriate carriers for all commercial, federal, and state insurance plans.
- Contacts payers for lost medication overrides, replacements, and vacation override approvals
- Assists with prescription audits.
- Ensures compliance with all pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Assist in the handling of UPS exceptions when assigned.
- Assist the facility in shipping mail or other items upon request.
- Follow and aid in enforcement of all company policies and procedures.
- Responsible for ordering supplies and boxes when needed.
- Accountable for contacting the courier or post office for any reason such as late pick-ups or special requests.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a Pharmacy. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

- The employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to mix drugs, use computer and other equipment and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position, and general hours of work and days are Monday through Friday in 8 hour shifts with potential hours on Saturday.
Required Education and Experience:
- High School Graduate
- Proven experience as Pharmacy Technician or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of medication and dosage measurement
- Knowledge of pharmacy law and medical terminology
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Reliable with a keen eye for detail
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 3-5 years of related experience
- USP 795 knowledge
- Certified Pharmacy Technician from recognized accrediting body
