Job description

The Pharmacy Business Consultant develops and manages the relationship with prospective and existing clients, including brokers, advisors, and Sales teams.  This position is the owner of development of long-term pharmacy account strategy and a lead in meeting client pharmacy immediate needs.  The Pharmacy Business Consultant is responsible for client retention as well as identifying leads, up sell and expansion opportunities, and incorporating them into the annual pharmacy strategic plan. The Pharmacy Business Consultant supports achievement of corporate strategic goals relative to growth and overall customer satisfaction. These responsibilities are strategic in nature and involve utilizing a strong knowledge base of pharmacy products/services and industry insights to identify and evaluate client needs and recommend the best solution.   The incumbent will lead and facilitate productive work teams to implement effective solutions for client’s new or changing specific pharmacy benefit designs.  The incumbent will develop and promote the Medica pharmacy value story in the marketplace.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in related field
  • 5+ years of work experience beyond degree 

Key Accountabilities:

Relationship Management/ Client support-

  • Work in collaboration with Medica’s Account Management team, including extended team members, as related to client strategic objectives and escalated service issues
  • Work collaboratively with the Medica’s Account Team and Analytics to ensure that pharmacy reporting is accurate, timely, and of high quality
  • Delivery of annual review of pharmacy plan performance with client.  
  • Interface directly with assigned clients and groups on a quarterly basis or more frequently as needed.
  • Serves as the face of Medica with ongoing communication to the client around pharmacy benefits as necessary to maintain and grow relationship thereby supporting client retention.
  • Serve as pharmacy benefits account strategist for assigned accounts both internally and externally.  Help determine opportunities for up sells, expansions and maximizing opportunities for revenue growth.
  • Lead CMD customer client pharmacy RFP support
  • Contextualizing quarterly pharmacy reporting for client teams to deliver trend insights and industry drivers
  • Support client financial discount and rebate reconciliations
  • Develops proposals, bids, quotations, or other documents describing organizational products and services in response to requests from prospective clients. Collaborates with various departments to ensure content is complete, accurate, and timely
  • Collaborate and consult with product and sales teams on the development of best-in-class pharmacy data and promotional materials that improve the consumer experience and build Medica’s reputation as a trusted health plan
  • Represents Pharmacy Business strategies on cross-functional business teams.

Project Management -

  • Lead and facilitate productive work teams to implement effective solutions to problems and client’s new or changing specific pharmacy benefit designs; monitor project progress and provide ongoing updates to stakeholders on project status.
  • Maintain data related to projects, including meeting records, presentations, recommendations, etc. to ensure documentation of project.
  • Develop and monitor key performance metrics (KPIs)
  • Makes recommendations for process improvements and manages change to ensure all developments are aligned with Medica objectives, long-term strategy and service excellence
  • Establish, maintain and/or adjust processes to meet Federal, State and business requirements.

Marketing /Promotion -

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to define and develop pharmacy value story
  • Educate brokers/agents and internal sales on pharmacy value story
  • Analyze and develop data to define value proposition

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Strong customer service skills
  • Experience in administrative systems, procedures, and customer (member/client) service, preferably in the PBM or insurance industry
  • 5 years of experience within the health plan or PBM operations
  • Understanding of technical, operational, and administrative processes associated with health plan functions
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy Benefits Management or Group Insurance industry strongly preferred
  • Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills; presentation skills
  • Excellent strategic planning and project management skills
  • Exceptional relationship building skills
  • Ability to assess situations from a broad viewpoint and target the detail to make positive change
  • Decision-making ability supported by experience in developing alternative courses of action
  • Analytics and metrics including performance management and monitoring
  • Must be able to influence, negotiate, and resolve conflicts to reach consensus around common goals
  • Ability to utilize relationship development skills, organizational skills, diplomacy, assertiveness and focus to collaboratively drive for results in a cross-functional environment
  • Ability to travel

This position is a Hub role, which requires an employee to occasionally come onsite to the designated office. Frequency is determined by business need as decided by leadership.

The full salary range for this position is $85,000 - $145,700. Annual salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and/or licensure, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data.  In addition to compensation, Medica offers a generous total rewards package that includes competitive medical, dental, vision, PTO, Holidays, paid volunteer time off, 401K contributions, caregiver services and many other benefits to support our employees.
