The Pharmacist I/II will focus primarily on independently supporting and maintaining all clinical aspects of the electronic health record/electronic medical record (EHR/EMR) system, including timely and safe implementation of new applications and upgrades related to the EHR/EMR.

The Pharmacist I/II may also procure and maintain an adequate supply of drugs and pharmaceuticals required for the treatment of a variety of conditions; communicate accurate information about drugs, their actions and usage to other health care professionals and patients; distribute drugs to patients; consult with medical staff members with regard to optimizing a patient’s treatment regimen.The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed by the infant (0-1 year), pediatric (2-10 years), adolescent (11-18 years), adult (19-64 years) and to geriatric (65 years plus) patient groups.

Examples of Duties: Maintaining and implementing MEDITECH EHR inpatient and outpatient systems, including Oncology; work as part of the team creating order sets, maintain drug formulary, and manage drug interaction alerts. Assist with evaluations, end-user training, optimization, workflow analysis and monitoring of the regional EHR (including all phases of build, design and testing).

Knowledge and Abilities Required:

Knowledge of: The principles and practices of professional pharmacy and their application to the operation of a pharmacy; specialized sciences directly applicable to pharmacy, such as pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, pharmacognosy, posology, toxicology and therapeutics; pharmaceutical instruments and techniques used in compounding.

Ability to: Apply acquired knowledge to pharmacy processes such as reading and interpreting prescriptions, instructions and procedures; keep records and prepare reports; establish and maintain effective working relationship with medical and administrative personnel within the facility.

Education Requirement: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate or Pharm.D degree in pharmacy.

License Requirement: A valid license with the State of Hawaii as a Pharmacist at the time of appointment.

Certification Requirement: Basic Life Support (BLS) required to be obtained within 1-month of appointment.

Professional Pharmacist Experience: Pharmacist I applicants must possess full-time work experience as a licensed pharmacist for a total of 6-months.

Supervisory Aptitude: Applicants for Pharmacist II must possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, previous work experience in a position that demonstrates or performs supervisory functions or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

Medical Examination Requirement

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

Shift Details

Must be available to work shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary based on hospital operations. Services are provided 24/7.

Shortage Differential

Compensation for this position includes a shortage differential.
