Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of integrated pest management duties in MPHA buildings to ensure the prevention and eradication of pest infestations.
All activities must support the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority's ('MPHA' or 'Authority') mission, vision and values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.
  • Inspects MPHA properties to determine the presence of pests and the need for treatment. Determines the proper course of treatment and chemical to use based on the pest and condition of the unit.
  • Performs Pest Control treatment, including placing of monitors and traps and applying chemicals in vacant and occupied units, common areas, grounds, and office spaces.
  • Performs heat remediation treatment of tenant units; including preparing equipment, transporting, setting up, operating, and monitoring equipment in units infested with bed bugs.
  • Completes reports and maintains records of treatments.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, product application directions, and precautions.
  • Educates tenants on proper sanitation and methods of pest infestation prevention; instructs tenants on unit preparation for treatments.
  • Attends training and safety meetings.
  • Provides feedback to Supervisor of Pest Control and Work Orders on areas of program improvement.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

The work of this position is performed entirely on-site in support of our agency's mission.

Position generally works on Authority properties, which may cause the employee to experience a range in unsanitary environments including those with significant pest infestation and high indoor temperatures and other weather conditions. The noise level may be loud and the environment may be more hazardous than a standard office environment. This position may be required to work with contractors as well as Authority residents.
Experience and Skills
Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in Pest Control or relevant work experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Minnesota Pest Control Technician license within nine (9) months of employment.
Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license. Those positions may also require use of a personal vehicle and evidence of individual automobile insurance coverage, or the ability to be insurable under the Authority's automobile insurance plan at the standard rate. Must pass a criminal history background check.
Technical Skills
To perform this job successfully, the employee must possess or have the ability to learn to identify pests, apply appropriate treatment, implement safe pesticide application procedures, comprehend complex chemical label instructions, understand importance of appropriate PPE usage. The employee should be able to successfully operate a variety of applicable hand-held tools and equipment. Must have the ability to learn proper use of other tools and equipment as required by assigned tasks.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. To perform this job successfully, the employee is frequently required to travel to various Authority properties to perform Pest Control work. Daily movements include sitting; standing; reaching and grasping; operating handheld tools and other machinery; moving about the properties; driving an automobile; and attending onsite meetings and offsite meetings. The employee must be able to exchange information in person, in writing, and via telephone. The employee must occasionally transport up to 50 pounds.
