The main function is to plan, prepare materials for and to implement fitness activities including but not limited to Personal Training and to lead land and water exercise classes for independent living residents.
Some of the job responsibilities are:
- Assist in the development and implementation of land-based and water exercises classes for residents.
- Create new exercise programs in consultation with the Fitness Program Manager.
- Conduct new resident Fitness Assessments and Fitness Center Orientations.
- Provide instruction and guide residents in using fitness room equipment, Pool, and have knowledge of group fitness options in order to direct residents to appropriate class options.
- Assist in the development and implementation of fitness programs such as; walking club, fitness month, seasonal and special event programming.
- Promote self-directed exercise and instruct residents by customizing their fitness routines. Encourage residents reach their highest potential through exercise to maintain their ability to perform the Activities of Daily Living.
- Attend activity staff meetings and other appropriate meetings.
- Recommend necessary improvements or repairs in Fitness Center.
- Escort residents with off-campus trips as needed by the Activity Department staff.
- Participate in wellness-related activities on campus.
- Maintain and stay current with certification in water and land-based exercise programs (i.e. AFAA, AEA, ACE, Yoga Alliance).
- Maintain and stay current with certification in First Aid, CPR and AED use.
- Enforce policies, procedures and rules of the fitness center and Pool.
- Have ability to use computers and software as required by work environment in order to enhance communications, performance and knowledge. Be familiar with Microsoft Word or Publisher and Microsoft Excel for creation of promotional flyers and program administration.
- Learn and stay abreast of Presbyterian Homes’ Corporate Compliance policies including those having to do with confidentiality and security of information, and concern for the well being of residents and patients. Demonstrate behaviors and complete work in a manner consistent with these policies.
EDUCATION: Personal Training certification and a Group Exercise Certification.
QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience in working with clients in a fitness setting and experience working with older adults preferred. One or more AFAA, ACE, AEA, or ACSM personal training and group fitness certifications required. Must maintain current certification in First Aid and CPR/AED.
