JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for participating in and providing skilled clerical and customer service support to the permitting, inspections, and development review functions of the department.
MAJOR DUTIES
· Provides clerical and customer service support for all permitting, inspections, and development reviews functions and responsibilities of the department.
· Receives and reviews building permitting applications and submittals for compliance and completion; assesses relevant requirements; educates customers regarding necessary permits and general code compliance.
· Verifies that projects have obtained all necessary approval and Issues permits; gathers, organizes, and examines information to assure compliance.
· Receives, stamps, and logs in all plans, letters, applications, etc. for the department.
· Verifies professional and contractor licensing
· Assists and supports inspectors with inspection requests and scheduling.
· Assists builders, contractors, and the general public with information on the permitting, inspections, and development review process, status of applications, and building requirements.
· Uses GIS technology to assist property owners, city departments, surveyors and mortgage companies.
· Calculates, accepts, and records money paid for applications, permits, fees, and other charges.
· Maintains building permitting, inspections, and development review files, records, reports, and logs.
· Provides assistance in the clerical responsibilities of the planning and zoning functions of the department.
· Provides assistance in answering telephone and greeting visitors; provides information and messages; takes messages; refers to appropriate personnel.
· Provides assistance in maintaining department supply inventory; organizing supply closet; reordering supplies; and the overall organization of the department’s common areas.
· Assists with the preparation of departmental information for meetings of the City Council, Planning Commission, and Architectural Review Board as needed.
· Prepares a variety of letters, correspondence, reports and memoranda.
· Copies and faxes a variety of documents.
· Makes copies of all building packets needed for permitting.
· Prepare development review process forms, applications, packets, and booklets.
· Attends training to remain proficient in duties and responsibilities.
· Notarizes documents.
· Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
· Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
· Possession of, or ability to readily obtain, International Code Council (ICC) Permit Technician Certification within twelve (12) months of employment.
