WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Peer Support Specialists is a non-exempt position, responsible for drawing their own, unique experiences to guide and support individuals in some form of mental health and/or substance use related recovery. Peer Support Specialists use personal experience in successfully managing their own recovery to develop meaningful, trusting relationships with clients, serving in a mentor role. Peer Support Specialists will work in conjunction with trained case managers and other professionals to provide outreach, engagement, referral, and linkage to formal (community providers) and informal (family, friends, neighbors, school, etc.) in support of client health, social, and economic needs.
- Provide an in-person response, as required and within the timeframes designated by contractual requirements and/or program procedure, to referrals.
- Initiate outreach and provide ongoing engagement with individuals experiencing overdose to build a trusting, peer-based relationship.
- Maintain contact with client, as required telephonically and/or in-person, with frequency outlined by contractual requirements, program procedure, and/or as based upon client need.
- Encourage clients to follow through with referrals and recommended follow-up for appropriate substance use treatment, community counseling, psychiatric services, financial, employment, parenting, housing, and other services as deemed appropriate to meet client needs.
- Provide naloxone emergency overdose reversal kits to clients and informal supports designated for administration of naloxone, as well as related safety information.
- Maintain client records that are timely and include detailed quality information, as well as, meet performance standards as outlined by contract requirements and Gulf Coast Jewish Family and Community Services policy and procedure.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date Authorization for Release of Confidential information forms to assure client confidentiality (one form per source agency to communicate with).
- Must ensure concise and timely completion of all documentation according to contract requirements, including entering all case activities into the AVATAR within two (2) business days.
- Assist in program planning and community outreach, training, and development of resources for the program clients.
- Attend supervision with Program Manager or designee on all cases.
- To participate in monthly staff meetings, audits, and other activities with QRT members, as determined by the Program Manager or designee.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus experience in demonstrating personal experience with substance use and successful recovery management.
- Experience working in a professional environment.
- Must pass background check or provide DCF Level II exemption.
- Must have a valid drivers' license and proof of auto insurance coverage.
