Phoenix House Florida is a non-profit, substance use treatment facility providing individualized services with a legacy spanning nearly 30 years. Phoenix House Florida is one of the largest residential not for profit facilities in the state of Florida. We can provide services for up to 250 clients in our beautiful residential facility that sits on 26 acres.

Our Citra facility offers adult residential services in separate units for men and women, and our Brandon facility offers adult and adolescent services on an outpatient basis. At Phoenix House Florida we are passionate about healing individuals, families, and communities challenged by substance use disorders and related mental health conditions.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Certified Peer Support Specialist serves as an advocate and positive role-model for clients that have chemical dependency, mental health, or co-occurring disorders with active dependency cases. The Support Specialist assists peers in articulating their personal goals for recovery, learning and developing empowering skills, and modeling effective coping techniques.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with clinicians in conducting initial assessments and coordinating follow-up care.
  • Establish a peer mentor relationship with the client that facilitates cooperation, engagement and retention in appropriate level of treatment.
  • Assist in basic job readiness skills that include job searches, links to vocational rehabilitation, workforce development, etc.
  • Assist the client in identifying the possible effects & impact of continuing substance use on his/her current life problems in ways that enhance the client's motivation for treatment.
  • Collaborate with supervisor and the Case Manager as necessary; documents findings and recommendations according to agency policy.
  • Meet with supervisor a minimum of x1 monthly in supervision to review cases, documentation, and discuss unique challenges of being a Peer Support Specialist.
  • Prepares accurate, timely, and concise client records that are consistent with agency standards and comply with all applicable regulations.
  • Protect client rights to privacy and confidentiality in the preparation and handling of records.
  • Be familiar with the mutually agreed upon measurable treatment objectives for client needs and desired outcomes, based on priority needs.
  • Help Case Manager coordinate treatment activities in a manner consistent with the diagnosis and placement criteria and client needs as requested.
  • Informs the client of confidentiality rights and the exceptions imposed by regulations.
  • Provides feedback to the Case Manager regarding the progress on referrals as it relates to the client's treatment plan objectives.
  • Maintain respect and non-judgmental attitudes toward clients in all contacts.
  • Understands applicable confidentiality regulations and ensures that all staff maintain confidentiality when sharing information in clinical consultation.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with client to assist in ensuring adherence to support the treatment and dependency goals.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of substance use disorders and the principles of recovery.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care helpful.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Ability to act as a positive role model.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must process a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have Certified Peer Specialist Certification (CPS)
  • Two or more years of related experience.
  • Experience in a substance use/mental health environment preferred.
