We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Peer Support Specialist to join our team and provide invaluable assistance to individuals struggling with Substance Use Disorder (SUD). As a Peer Support Specialist, you will leverage your personal lived experience and training to offer empathy, guidance, and hope to individuals on their path to recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
Peer Support:
Establish rapport with clients by sharing your personal recovery journey and offering a message of hope and encouragement.
Provide emotional support, active listening, and non-judgmental guidance to individuals in recovery.
Assist clients in setting achievable recovery goals and developing personalized recovery plans.
Help clients identify and access appropriate community resources and support services.
Advocacy and Empowerment:
Advocate for clients' needs and rights within the healthcare system, legal system, and social services.
Encourage clients to make informed decisions about their treatment and recovery journey.
Promote self-empowerment and self-advocacy in clients, empowering them to take charge of their recovery.
Education and Skill-Building:
Offer education on substance use, addiction, and the recovery process.
Teach coping skills and relapse prevention techniques.
Facilitate group discussions and workshops on relevant recovery topics.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions and services provided to clients.
Prepare reports and documentation as required by the organization and regulatory agencies.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with the broader treatment team, including counselors, therapists, and medical professionals, to ensure holistic care for clients.
Participate in team meetings and case conferences to discuss client progress and treatment plans.
Qualifications:
Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist or have completed a Peer Support training program (if applicable in your region).
Lived experience with Substance Use Disorder and personal recovery is essential.
Strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical boundaries.
Excellent communication and active listening skills.
Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude.
Knowledge of local resources and support services for individuals in recovery.
Basic computer skills for documentation purposes.
