About IBH Addiction Recovery

IBH Addiction Recovery, founded in 1970, is a highly effective nonprofit organization and leading provider of drug and alcohol addiction treatment in Summit County. We provide evidence-based services including Residential Treatment, Day Treatment, Outpatient Programs, Aftercare support, and Recovery Housing, complemented by spiritual guidance, all intended to offer persons with alcohol and drug addiction, including those with a co-occurring mental health disorder, the opportunity to restore hope and gain skills for a lifetime of sobriety.

At IBH Addiction Recovery, we build our treatment philosophy around four core values: Dignity, Community, Stewardship (Outcomes), and Spirituality. We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Recovery Supporter to help us meet the individualized needs of people in recovery and uphold those values.

Job Summary:

The Peer Recovery Supporter serves as a role model, mentor, advocate, and coach to a diverse population of program participants who are at various stages of recovery to help prevent relapse and to promote long-term recovery. The Peer Recovery Supporter draws significantly on personal experience and knowledge of recovery and community resources appropriately as directed by that individual’s own recovery journey.

Essential Job Duties:
  1. Assists as a member of a multi-disciplinary team with the implementation of individual client treatment plans.
  2. Develops and maintains close working relationships with other program staff to enhance and connect individuals to community, health, and employment resources.
  3. Cultivates and engages in authentic peer-to-peer relationships in person and/or through telehealth.
  4. Works with individuals one-on-one and in groups to provide recovery training and outreach to individuals.
  5. Meets or exceeds identified service goals.
  6. Completes all required documentation in the electronic record accurately and in a timely manner per agency standards.
  7. Assists with and/or provides client transportation related to the provision of peer support services utilizing own or agency vehicle.

  1. Provides opportunities for individuals receiving services to direct their own recovery process and acts as an advocate for persons served.
  2. Provides services most often in the community to support & promote recovery activity and environment as well as prosocial activities.
  3. Models personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hope by drawing on one’s recovery

story and experiences, as appropriate.

  1. Assists in the recruitment and orientation process for new or prospective clients who may benefit from receiving agency services and support.
  2. Educates and assists clients in developing and following a recovery plan to identify their personal interests and goals, recognize early triggers and signs of relapse, and use of coping strategies in recovery.
  3. Coordinates, schedules, monitors, and actively participates in community service projects, events, and activities with clients to promote skills development, stewardship, employability, and community integration.
  4. Actively identifies and supports connections to community resources (communities of recovery, educational, medical, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual resources, mutual self-help groups, professional services, etc.) that support the client’s individual needs and interests.
  5. Provides education and advocacy within the community to promote awareness of substance use disorders while reducing misconceptions, prejudices, and discrimination against persons served.
  6. Proactively contacts clients via phone calls, social media, visits, or other means pre-, during, and post-programs to ensure he or she is making a successful transition to community integration and is continuing their progress toward recovery and personal goals.
  7. Assesses emergency situations, notifies supervision and/or clinical team of actual or potential problems. Keeps treatment team informed about client’s strengths, accomplishments, and obstacles about their recovery process.
  8. Regularly participates in individual and group supervision.
  9. Ensures confidentiality of all client and agency information including while in public, private, virtually, in telehealth, events, gatherings, or while using social media, phone, email, any communications, or other digital platforms.
  10. Attends staff meetings, reviews monthly staff meeting minutes, and follows up on assigned action items.
  11. Attends workshops, seminars, and required agency training to stay current on trends in chemical dependency, co-occurring disorders, Peer Recovery support skills and services, and federal, state, and local regulations required to maintain certifications or licensure.
  12. Supports clients in seeking to connect/reconnect with family, friends, and significant others and in learning how to improve or eliminate unhealthy relationships.
  13. Performs other duties that may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor.

Educational/Experience Requirements
  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. Certification as a Peer Supporter in the State of Ohio.
  3. Training or experience in treatment and/or peer support preferred.
  4. Lived experience with addiction recovery required and willingness to self-identify as a current or former recipient of substance use disorder or co-occurring services.
  5. CPR and First Aid certifications, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  1. Ability to work with a diverse range of service participants, including diversity of age, gender, gender identity, race, religion, sexual orientation, physical and mental ability, and more.
  2. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and EHR systems.
  3. Must submit to a background check and drug screen, pre-employment and at random.
  4. Valid Driver’s License and automobile insurance.
Physical Demands

Work will be performed in a range of professional, institutional, and community settings and involve some evening, weekend, and on-call hours. Considerable standing, sitting, and walking is required. Includes lifting, pushing, pulling of supplies/equipment up to 20 lbs. occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. frequently. Includes occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Subject to environmental and outside conditions such as weather conditions. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid Driver’s License and Insurance.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational needs.

Work Environment

This job operates in a healthcare setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations within the agency so as the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no staff supervisory responsibilities.
