Job description

We are seeking a motivated and empathetic Peer Recovery Support Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will use your personal recovery experience to support, guide, and mentor patients through detoxification, helping them navigate the challenges of early recovery.
Key Responsibilities:

Peer Support:

  • Share your personal recovery journey to inspire and motivate patients.
  • Build trusting relationships with patients, offering empathy, understanding, and hope.
Guidance and Mentoring:

  • Assist patients in setting recovery goals and developing coping strategies.
  • Provide insight into the recovery process, including challenges and milestones.
Resource Connection:

  • Connect patients with community resources, support groups, and ongoing treatment options.
  • Facilitate introductions to recovery communities and networks.
Collaboration with Treatment Team:

  • Work closely with clinical staff to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care.
  • Participate in treatment planning and review meetings.
Advocacy and Education:

  • Advocate for patients' needs and rights within the facility.
  • Educate patients and staff about the recovery process and peer support principles.
Qualifications:

  • Lived experience in recovery from substance use disorder (minimum two years in recovery preferred).
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in peer support or related field is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathetic and non-judgmental approach.
  • Basic knowledge of substance use disorders and recovery principles.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, if necessary.

  • Peer Recovery Support certification (CPRS) (Preferred)
  • National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS) (Preferred)
