Job description

Central Oregon Pediatric Associates (COPA) of Bend, Oregon, the largest pediatric practice in the region, is hiring a full time Pediatric Clinical Nurse Manager.

At COPA, the Pediatric Clinical Nurse Manager plays an integral role serving patients at our friendly and welcoming medical clinic for children of all ages. The Pediatric Clinical Nurse Manager provides leadership and administrative support to our nursing and lactation teams, and their commensurate activities and services, in our outpatient ambulatory clinics. This position directly manages the Registered Nurses (RNs), our remote RN triage pediatric phone support team, and our Lactation Consultants, across four physical locations. The Pediatric Clinical Nurse Manager ensures that these teams provide high quality, patient-and-family centered care in collaborative ways that partner with our other clinical care teams, including our providers and our clinical support staff, and in accordance with Patient-Centered Primary Care Home Standards. This role oversees all vaccines and commensurate processes for the organization, as well as oversees the implementation of employee health. The Pediatric Clinical Nurse Manager will have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, will have some knowledge of risk and compliance in clinical settings, be a collaborative team player, and have previous experience with process improvement in an ambulatory clinic setting. The Pediatric Clinical Nurse Manager is instrumental in collaborating with the executive team on decision making and is the communication and implementation bridge between executive leadership and the front-line staff. This position functions in alignment with COPA’s mission, vision and values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

Maintains an in-depth knowledge of clinical principles, practices, standards, and techniques, and demonstrates knowledge in accordance with COPA policies and procedures within pertinent laws and regulations in the following areas:

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and manage nursing and lactations services to promote health, improve outcomes, with a focus on QIMs, PCPCH and PCPCH+ metrics and outcomes for our patients.
  • Establishes performance standards and measurements for the RN and Lactation teams under the guidance of the executive team. Conducts annual reviews and regular employee performance check-ins while coaching and providing performance feedback to staff to ensure their continued success and development.
  • Coordinates RN and Lactation staffing across four physical clinics through the creation and maintenance of the master schedules. Works collaboratively with the schedule group and providers to meet organizational staffing needs and maximize resources.
  • Coordinates, tracks, and communicates Pediatric Nurse Advice Line coverage between COPA, Call-Center, and Randall Pediatric Phone Advice Line.
  • Develops and participates in maintenance of clinical policies and procedures and patient education materials.
  • Accountable for overall daily, weekly, and monthly time and attendance for RN and Lactation team members.
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of clinical informatics and is the point of contact for Epic and IT needs for the RN and Lactation team members.
  • Supports the organization in ongoing work in quality improvement.
  • Organizes training opportunities for clinical team members as appropriate and collaborates with other team leaders to coordinate improved practices.
  • Works to ensure compliance with department processes, documentation and attestation requirements directly tied to the PCPCH Program Standards.
  • Works with teams, team leads, and other managers to optimize workflows both within teams and between teams. Works in a collaborative role with the management team, staff, and physicians in the clinical practices, as well as related departments throughout the organization.
  • Facilitates communication between the patient, physicians and other team members and works cooperatively with other members of the treatment team and community partners.
  • Oversees vaccine management and handling procedures and processes; coordinates VFC site visits, fridge calibration and monitoring systems; liaison with vaccine representatives.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate seasonal flu clinic staff, schedules, processes, and vaccine supply.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider classes for the clinical departments.
  • Works with COCC to support its nursing program, in collaboration with executive leadership.
  • Provides weekly updates to the Director and to executive leadership, discussing trends and recommending solutions for improvement when challenges or opportunities arise.
  • Works directly with Human Resources in the recruitment process of new clinical service team members utilizing successful interviewing, onboarding, and using excellent communication skills.

Qualifications
Education and Certification:

  • Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Education Preferred: Master’s degree in health-related field.
  • Required: Current RN licensure with the Oregon State Board of Nursing. Valid Oregon Driver’s License required. AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider.
  • Preferred: Certification in pediatrics, nurse leadership, case management or lactation.

Experience:

  • Required: Five years of nursing experience with 2 years of healthcare management experience.
  • Preferred: Pediatric nursing. Management experience in Nursing, Care Coordination, or Case Management
  • Epic EMR experience preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level in person, over the telephone or through use of other required technology. Sitting or standing for long periods of time.
  • Frequent repetitive motion includes computer keyboard use, reaching with hands and arms, and walking.
  • Occasional lifting and or moving up to 30 pounds and on rare occasion up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include viewing computer monitor for long periods of time, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work inside in a general medical office setting with ergonomically configured equipment.
  • The employee is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to mechanical parts and chemicals including odors. The employee has been identified as having the likelihood of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials, therefore are included in the OSHA Exposure Control Plan with specification for preventing contact with the above materials.
  • Travel between COPA clinics and business office as required.
