Job Summary
Responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing of part time university employees in accordance with established federal, state, and university policies and procedures. This work involves calculating, processing, and reconciling various earnings and deductions. Review and entry of federal and multiple state tax forms in Banner. Processing of employee direct deposit change requests. Analysis, evaluation and reconciliation of personnel actions. Knowledge of FLSA laws, Federal and Code of Virginia 34-29 garnishment laws and Consumer Credit Protection Act. Experience in applying Federal and VA as well as out of state tax regulations. Proper data entry and processing of employee benefits and deductions including applicable taxes, pre and post-tax parking and 403b or 457 contributions. Establish and maintain effective communication with internal and external customers while responding to questions and inquiries concerning payroll data. Reconcile the payroll and deduction registers each pay period to all supporting documentation. Review and apply applicable forms for student International Tax Treaties, and Non-Resident Alien procedures. Track and reconcile W2 and 1042 reportable wages for NRAs. Perform payroll adjustments as necessary. Interpret, review and process student FICA exemptions in accordance with IRS Code. Liaison between Payroll and university departments for biweekly timesheet troubleshooting. Assist with testing of the Banner HR module updates as well as mass changes for employee job or benefit deduction records. Process all department purchase requisitions and receiving through eVA.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated payroll, human resource, fiscal, accounting or financial management experience; significant experience providing a high level of customer service and communication to internal and external customers; knowledge of relevant laws and regulations like the Fair Labor Standards Act ( FSLA ); strong proficiency with current office software like Microsoft Office; ability to work independently and in a team environment to process accurate and timely payroll transactions; ability to perform and analyze complex mathematical computations, to research and resolve problems and to work with people from diverse backgrounds at all levels of the university; must be able to handle confidential and highly sensitive information and data; attentive to detail and able to manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline intensive, high-volume environment. Must act in an ethical manner at all times.
Additional Considerations
Prior experience working within a state agency and/or in a higher education environment; experience with Banner ERP system is preferred.

Starting at $44,000 (Pay Band 4)
