Job description

Location: LifePoint Haywood Regional Medical Center
Shift: Monday - Friday (8:00 am to 5:00 pm)
As our Patient Financial Advocate - Financial Counselor Representative, you'll be responsible for counseling uninsured and or under-insured patients to attempt to obtain a paying funding source. You will educate patients on their responsibilities and potential options. You'll be responsible for accurately and compassionately explaining to the patient their financial obligation during their counseling session. In this role, the successful employee must display a strong sense of patient care and attention to detail.
To thrive in this job, you'll need to be a confident multi-tasker who is a quick study with technology, health plans, and the ability to be a liaison between multiple entities. Previous experience as a financial counselor with a background in medical terminology and understanding State and Federal assistance programs is a plus. Since this is a hospital/lab environment, you will need to be prepared to see illness and injuries. You may need to be up to date on all vaccinations (including but not limited to COVID-19 and annual flu shot), pass a drug test, and pass a background check prior to hire.
At R1 RCM, we deliver innovative solutions by bringing together the best people and technologies that enable providers to simplify the healthcare experience. Our mission is to be the one trusted partner to manage revenue, so providers and patients can focus on what matters most. Our 22,000+ global associates are given valuable opportunities to contribute, innovate, and create meaningful work that makes an impact in the communities we serve around the world. Interested? Here's what you can expect working as a Patient Financial Advocate - Financial Counselor Representative:

  • Helping people who may be very ill or worried. We're not human computers intaking information. Patients need you to be there for them and listen carefully to ease their anxiety regarding financial obligations. You'll build rapport in real time.
  • In this fast-paced work environment, you will be helping patients work through their financial obligations for service. While counseling uninsured patients on financial assistant programs, information may seem straightforward, there is a lot of variation in benefit plans and coverage, that will require knowledge you will gain through training.
