JOB SUMMARY: Under supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) The Patient Care Technician assists in caring for patients by answering call lights, bathing, feeding, transporting, monitoring vital signs and provides for the basic needs of the patient. The Technician will also change linens and maintain patient rooms in an orderly fashion. Provides general technical and clerical support to patients and their families as well as to physicians and nursing staff on the Andis Women's and Children's Department.

- Performs newborn hearing screens and records information.
- Assists physician with circumcisions under the direction of the RN. Obtains and records vital signs.
- Notifies RN of abnormal results. Obtains newborn screens, Accucheck under the direction of the RN.
- Delivers specimens to Lab. Transports patients at discharge.
- Processes new physician orders. Prepares charts for new patients.
- Disassembles charts upon dismissal.
- Monitors medical records for timely prenatal history and physician notes and orders for placenta studies if required.
- Prepares and reports birth certificate information to HIS and State.
- Prepares and reports State required data for newborn screens and hearing screens.
- Assists with equipment set up and clean up.
- Returns equipment to proper storage locations.
- Orders supplies per established par levels.
- Maintains paper supplies for department printers, label makers and copier.
- Assists in keeping nursing desks neat and free from clutter.
- Maintains departmental security and transponder cleaning.
