HSI has served the community for over 50 years by providing patients with a full range of quality comprehensive services. We have 11 clinics located throughout the River Region, 2 mobile clinics, and 4 school-based clinics in partnership with Montgomery Public Schools.

HSI is looking for a Patient Account Rep to join our team in Montevallo, AL. Our PARs are an integral part of our team, providing clinical and clerical support to our Providers and patients.

Performs a variety of clerical and receptionist duties, to include but not limited to, greeting patients as they enter the facility, answer telephones, collect necessary patient information and enter data, verify insurance and collect payment for services, manage medical records and calculate and collect payment for pharmacy filled by HSI.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Greet patients with a smile and show compassion as they enter the health center.

  • Register patients in a timely manner.
  • Verify the patients’ eligibility with third party payers on each visit and screen self-paying patients who may be eligible for insurance programs.
  • Collect minimum fees upfront and provide patient with a receipt.
  • Endorse all checks collected for payment. Stamp check with HSI deposit stamp and indicate the patient’s account number on the check.
  • Collect proper documentation and necessary forms.
  • Collect necessary income documentation and ensure patients complete financial verification form prior to approving sliding fee discount.
  • Answer telephone calls promptly. Speak in a friendly tone and always identify yourself and your department.
  • Schedule appointments in EPM, print appointment schedule for clinical staff and call patients in advance for appointment notification.
  • Calculate charges for medications received from the HSI pharmacy based on sliding fee discounts. Identify Pfizer medications and collect professional fees.
  • Sort incoming mail (interoffice and postal) and distribute to appropriate staff on a daily basis.
  • Maintain medical records and charts onsite to include filing and retrieving at the providers request and scanning necessary information.
  • Secure Patient Account information when using EPM.
  • Balance cash drawer at the beginning and end of the workday.
  • Open a batch at the beginning of the day and close at the end of the day.
  • Perform CPT charge reconciliation at check-out for each patient.
  • Print necessary reports to identify errors and make necessary corrections before closing and submitting to supervisor.
  • Travel to other HSI facilities as needed.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by Supervisor.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Previous data entry experience required; experience in a medical office setting preferred.
  • Basic typing skills and data entry.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Combination of sitting, standing, walking, speaking and listening on a regular basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must be able to demonstrate good writing skills.

  • Must exhibit good written and verbal communication skills and be able to work well with the public. Show compassion, warmth and be cordial, exhibiting professional etiquette and a disposition for patience and assistance.
  • Ability to deal effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Must readily understand normal procedures and identify circumstances that require exception procedures.
  • Must be attentive to details and intent on their correctness.
  • Ability to work in a stressful and fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion with minimum instruction.
  • Must be of good report, professional in mannerisms, demonstrate initiative, and function in the best interest of HSI.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $27,000.00 - $999,999.00 per year
