The qualifications and skills for this position include:
- Proven work experience in cashiering; retail and/or food service experience is preferred;
- Proven computer experience in Microsoft Office to include data input experience;
- Strong business aptitude;
- Excellent verbal and written skills;
- Excellent customer service skills;
- Good organizational skills;
- Ability to be detail oriented and perform accurately under pressure;
- Ability to work independently as well as with others and be self-motivated;
- Professional demeanor;
- As this position requires direct contact with college administrators, faculty, staff, general public and students on a regular basis, the ability to deal with all types of individuals via telephone and in-person is extremely important.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Providing excellent internal and external customer service;
- Completing all types of customer transactions at POS register while maintaining accuracy;
- Restocking merchandise as assigned;
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization of store;
- Attending Part Time staff meetings at scheduled times;
- Working nights and weekends as required;
- Supporting all activities of the campus bookstore.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The specific duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Providing excellent customer service to customers in store or on phone;
- Greet customers promptly and professionally;
- Use proper etiquette when speaking with customers, whether in person, by telephone or by e-mail;
- Inventory control of merchandise to be monitored and accounted for as assigned; Handling customer transactions at POS register in efficient manner as assigned;
- Maintaining a high level of accuracy regarding transactions of cash, checks, credit cards and accounts;
- Performing well under high pressure/stress situations, especially during back-to-school rush period, buybacks and other College events;
- Keeping store appearance to high standards of cleanliness and organization;
- Maintaining café;
- Keeping café and surrounding seating areas clean and organized;
- Following café drink recipes as required;
- Keeping café stocked of necessary components, i.e. cups, lids, napkins, syrups, sauces, coffees, etc.;
- Following café best practices on times and temperatures;
- Processing receipts and other data into the computer system;
- Closing cashier sessions and balancing drawers as assigned;
- Balancing and entering deposits as assigned;
- Completing all types of customer transactions at POS register while maintaining accuracy;
- Completing other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Campus President, Bookstore Operations Assistant Manager, and/or the Bookstore Operations Manager.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, computer, cash register, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
