JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Penn State Department of Family and Community Medicine is seeking a part-time Research Assistant to work on multiple Food as Medicine initiatives. This position will include working with a community-engaged, dynamic, fast paced, interdisciplinary research team.
The primary role of this position will be to provide nutrition education, food tastings, and cooking demonstrations to diverse groups of people who are SNAP eligible in low income settings (children, adults, and families). This includes collecting, reporting, and evaluating outcomes data on the impact of our initiatives at the individual and community level.
The Research Assistant will work on a part-time basis up to 20 hours per week to support our community-based outreach and research based on their expertise. This candidate must have exceptional oral and written communication skills with a willingness to work in a variety of community settings presenting health-related programming. Experience with data management and data analysis software such as REDCap, Excel, SAS, and SPSS is required. Candidates should be able to both work independently and in a team environment. They must also have the ability to contribute to the Penn State College of Medicine and FCM's missions. Access to reliable transportation for local travel to partner sites is required. Flexibility with work schedule and ability to attend community events (days, evenings, weekends) is also important. Someone who has a passion for community nutrition and is a fluent Spanish speaker is a significant plus.
