This is a four-month appointment with the possibility of extension.
Working in the Special Collections department, the Part-Time Processing Archives Assistant will do archival appraisal, arrangement, description, and preservation of 40 linear feet of the Terry Hershey Papers documenting the life and work of the Houston environmental activist.

Schedule is flexible within these hours: Monday-Friday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm

Required:

Principal Duties:
- Appraise materials for permanent retention or removal from the archival collection
- Organize the collection using professional best practices and Libraries department policies
- Describe the collection in an ArchivesSpace finding aid inventory using archival standards and best practices for publication to the web
- Re-house collection materials in archival boxes, folders, and other enclosures for long-term preservation and access

Qualifications
Required:
- Experience working with historical archives; or enrollment in a graduate program in library science, history, or environmental studies; or a degree from an ALA-accredited program in library science.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Attention to detail
