Caterpillar Mapleton Foundry is seeking students currently enrolled in a college/university to work side by side with manufacturing and EHS professionals at Caterpillar. Interns are empowered with assignments that provide them with relevant work experience and significant opportunities for learning.
This position is a 10 to 15 hour per week assignment during the school year with the opportunity to work 40 hours per week during school breaks and during the summer months. The duration of this position is one year, with potential to continue with mutual agreement of the student and manager .
These positions are essential to support improvements to Mapleton’s safety culture. The selected individuals will provide critical in-shop visual and written support on Standard Work (SW), Safe Job Procedures (SJP) and Safety Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)’s. These critical roles will have the time necessary to document shop adherence to existing standard work documents, collect information on when and why certain process steps are not being followed, update SW with current / correct photos to support the dialog being expressed in the forms and to assess the risks that are associated with every process step. While in the facility, these positions will be able to satisfy their curriculum internship requirement, all while helping to make improvements to existing safety programs and processes.
Basic Qualifications:
Must be enrolled full time at an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or similar technical field
Minimum 2.8/4.0 Cumulative GPA (no rounding)
Completed 30 semester hours prior to start of internship
Must be able to work through the 2023-2024 school year
Must be willing and able to complete daily work commute to the Mapleton Foundry Facility using reliable transportation
Expected graduation date of 2024 or beyond
Top Candidates May Have:
Leadership involvement in campus organizations, community service and/or extracurricular activities
Previous technical internship, co-op, or research/relevant experience
Strong communication, teamwork, analytical, and interpersonal skills
Completed coursework in EHS, Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Processes, Data Analysis

The primary location for this position is Mapleton, IL
The internship would start in April or May and continue throughout the 2023-2024 school year
This is a part-time, temporary position
