Employment Opportunity
Under the general direction of the Clerk of Court, the Part-Time Deputy Clerk of Court is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of Mayor's Court.
SCHEDULE:
This position would work three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) from either 7:30 AM- 4:30 PM or 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM.
Essential Functions of Work
(May not include all duties performed.)
Maintains and secures court records for the Court and the Magistrate;
Schedules and prepares court dockets;
Ensures Court has all necessary paperwork, office supplies, and electronic equipment for the operation of the Court;
Processes all Court receipts including Court fines and Court costs;
Keeps accurate records of all Court receipts;
Prepares jail commitments and release documents;
Ensures proper disposal of sealed and expunged cases;
Processes case transfers and de novo appeals to Franklin County Municipal Court;
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Proficiency with technology, Microsoft Office, data export, and spreadsheet management.
General knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
Experience with law enforcement procedures and documents; knowledge of local ordinances and the Ohio Revised Code.
Thorough knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, and procedures governing the legal processes of a court.
Thorough knowledge of legal terminology, documents, laws, rules, and regulations governing court record-keeping and reporting requirements.
Knowledge of record retention management laws, rules, and regulations.
Ability to effectively complete the tasks of the Court.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing, before the community and other organizations.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with the public, the Magistrate, lawyers, City staff, other court officials, and other agents in the legal system.
Ability to learn and comply with Ohio and City of Hilliard's public records retention laws, rules, and regulations.
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Typical Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma; a two-year Associate degree is preferred from an accredited institution of higher learning, with two (2) to three (3) years of progressively responsible clerical or court experience
Ability to work onsite in an office environment. This position is not eligible to work remotely.
Possession of or the ability to obtain, certification as a Notary Public.
Must have a background free of felony convictions.
RETIREMENT PENSION
The City contributes 14% monthly toward retirement benefits offered through the Ohio Retirement System (OPERS) and the employee contributes 10%.
PERSONAL LEAVE
Part-time employees who have worked for a minimum of 1,000 hours during the prior calendar year for the City, shall be eligible for forty (40) hours of paid personal leave each year. Part-time employees who have worked less than 1,000 hours but more than 500 hours in the previous calendar year for the City shall be eligible for twenty-four (24) hours of paid personal leave each year.
