Job Description: Level III: Building Service Worker
Employees at level III-perform the essential duties with an assigned group of custodial employees and assigned work as directed. They work under general supervision from a designated supervisor.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES NEEDED TO UNDERTAKE JOB.
- Knowledge of cleaning solutions and custodial methods.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to follow Instructions.
- Ability to be trained in the means and methods of the buildings and grounds department.
Job Purpose:
The Custodian is responsible for cleaning and maintaining all school property - interior/exterior; ensuring all equipment, materials, etc. are available for scheduled activities - both community and student activities; removal of trash, snow, debris from exterior areas; and serve as a representative of the District to the community, students, parents, and the general public while activities are occurring within the building. Work is performed under the continuing supervision of the Director and Lead Custodian. The custodian is also responsible to care for the cleanup of food service related spaces such as kitchens and cafeterias before and after school. The custodian can be tasked with a cleaning assignment wherever the department deems necessary. General cleaning will be performed during the school year. Restorative cleaning will be performed during the summer months.
General Cleaning Responsibilities:
- Cleaning, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, washing in classrooms, hallways,
Bathrooms, kitchen areas, and common areas.
- Empty all waste containers and following any recycling plans directed in the building. Ensure waste containers are clean.
- Clean and disinfect classrooms and all bathroom facilities daily or specified cleaning schedule.
- Project cleaning of building as assigned.
Kitchen Cleaning:
- Mop, roll and move kitchen mats - daily.
- Wet mop entire floor surface. Empty all garbage containers.
- Cafeteria clean-up; includes setting up and/or dismantling lunchroom
Tables, cleaning and mopping floors; empty trash containers.
General duties:
- Move furniture and equipment throughout building.
- Gyms: Transport, set-up, tear down wrestling mats.
- Transport, set-up, tear down of chairs, tables, sports equipment.
- Locker Rooms: Clean and disinfect shower rooms. Clean drains.
- Sweep/dust, mop/wet mop floors.
- Clean water fountains, lockers & benches. Scrub floors.
- Activity Set-ups: The following represents just a sample of activity
Set-ups required in the district. The intensity of the set-ups and number
of occurrences will vary depending upon the season and the facility.
Transport, set-up, tear down choral or platform risers.
- Pull, set-up, push back telescope bleachers.
- Transport, set-up, tear down tables and chairs. Ensure any equipment is in room as specified by activity sheet.
- Perform additional duties assigned by supervisor

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The District will train well qualified employees for seasonal positions.

Physical Demands:
- Strength: Must have the quality, state, or property of being strong, must have the power to withstand strain, force, or stress. Must be able to frequently manipulate materials and/or equipment frequently by lifting, holding, pushing/pulling a weight of 25-50 lbs from ground to waist or from waist level.
- Climbing: Must be able to climb step stool, 8-10’ step ladder, extension ladder, and climb 1 flight of stairs.
- Standing, sitting and walking: Must have ability to: frequently (3-5 hours/day) stand, frequently (1-3 hours/day) walk, frequently (1-3 hours/day) sit. Must be able to walk on flat terrain. Running is not essential to the job.
- Stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling: Must have ability to bend forward or down from the middle of the waist or the middle of the back, to bend downwards, to lower oneself and/or to move freely on hands and knees 20-50 times per day.
- Reaching, handling, fingering, and/or feeling: Must have ability to stretch out, extend, or put forth a bodily part; to touch or grasp something, by extending or stretching; to touch, lift, hold or operate with hands over 50 times per day.

- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently assist in lifting and/or moving more than 50 pounds when moving furniture. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed use of cleaning chemicals. Training and personal protective equipment is provided to the employee.
