Job description

The purpose of this job is responsibility for the management, supervision, and coordination of all, grounds and building maintenance services provided at the parks and boat landings assigned. Implement maintenance schedules, conduct detail park and boat landing inspections of each facility, maintain written reports for each site, supervise assigned parks maintenance staff, oversee volunteer projects, and respond to citizen request and complaints. This position also requires hands on, direct involvement in the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the assigned parks system. Assist during storm clean up and weather-related events.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems and directing work. This position recommends counseling and disciplining to the department head and/or division director.
  • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Oversee the day-to-day maintenance and operation of assigned parks and boat landings.
  • Coordinate inspections of playground equipment, park facilities, board walks/landings, walking trails and all physical structures, etc.
  • Manage and coordinate staff, equipment, and resources to deliver a wide range of services and duties including turf maintenance, removal of litter, clean restrooms, and hands on, direct involvement.
  • Maintain Park and boat landing buildings, paint and replace fixtures as needed and coordinate with county facilities maintenance staff or county public services staff as needed for projects.
  • Remove trash and yard debris using small engine equipment.
  • Perform detailed park and boat landing inspections and provide reports to document park and boat landing conditions to department head.
  • Coordinate and communicate with community groups and citizens regarding maintenance and operation of the parks and boat landings.
  • Maintaining Indian Bluff Park to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineering’s specifications and coordinate the annual inspection.
  • Fulfilling Forfeit Land Commission property maintenance work orders as assigned.
  • Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires High School diploma or general education degree GED equivalent.
Requires two (2) years of experience in park maintenance of which one (1) year in a leadership capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, office machines and business procedures.
Special Certificates and Licenses:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License

Physical Demands:
Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
  • Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
  • Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
  • Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
  • Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.
  • Traffic; Moving machinery.
  • Electrical shock; Heights.

Reasoning Ability, Mathematical and Language Skills:
Ability to define problems and collects data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals as needed. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
