$18-$22 per hour DOQ, Full-time: 40 hours/week, IMRF eligible (pension) plus benefits.

 

SUMMARY

 
Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Parks and Facilities, the Parks and Facilities Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and support of Park District facilities.  The Parks and Facilities specialist will perform maintenance tasks which include, but are not limited to repairs, improvement of grounds, facilities, and buildings, construction projects, maintenance of operating equipment, and landscaping. In addition, the Parks and Facilities Specialist will oversee custodial and seasonal staff.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
 

1. Minimum of high school degree; or three years of experience or training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
2. Trade or vocational school is preferred.
3. Strong mechanical aptitude
4. Knowledge of operations, services and activities of grounds and Facilities operations and equipment maintenance.
5. Two years of relevant work experience in a maintenance environment.
6. Knowledge of general maintenance of athletic areas, tennis courts, playgrounds and other facilities of the District.
7. Valid IL driver's license.
8. Successful applicant must be 21 years of age.

 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks.
 

1. Perform basic facility maintenance throughout the District, including but not limited to, building repair, minor plumbing and minor carpentry, ceiling tile and light bulb replacement, etc.
2. Oversees the Custodial staff and sees that all facilities are clean and setup for classes and events as needed.
3. Keeps inventory of the custodial supplies and places order as needed.
4. Safely drives the park district pick-up trucks.
5. Safely operates tractors, mowing equipment, and machinery used in parks maintenance.
6. Paints equipment and Facilities of the District.
7. Inspects Parks and Facilities operated by the District and participates in maintenance, repairs or appropriate activities (Perform monthly facility inspections - document and fix as needed).
8. Assists Safety Committee in establishing safety plans for the District.
9. Prepares grounds for special events initiated by the District.
10. Plants and trims trees and shrubs.
11. Removes all garbage and refuse materials from Parks and playgrounds.
12. Performs all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the District's safety program.
13. Dragging and marking lines on sports fields.
14. Must be available to work weekends and evening hours.
15. Is available for call-outs as needed.
16. Assists Park staff as needed.
17. Performs other related duties as assigned.
